I'm pretty sure it was just to get them localized in the Americas, everyone knew already that it was going to EU, and well I guess Australia was somewhat surprising, but at the same time not really.

I dunno I could be wrong, I'm not exactly keeping up with it, I just see what comes across various sites.

It's just another instance of Nintendo being awful again. I'm certainly done supporting their s***ty consoles even though I do enjoy some of their first party games. For the last 10 years Nintendo has repeatedly told the fans to go **** off and die and people still support them.

The reason they won't release is because Nintendo does not care about America.

I realize it's a silly thing to say, but when you've got a game in demand that's already been translated and voiced in english, and then announce that game for AUSTRALIA right in the middle of a massive campaign to get it released in the US, and then the next day say you have no intention or porting it stateside after claiming you have "big news" upcoming beforehand, YOU DO NOT CARE ABOUT AMERICA.

technically I wouldn't say Operation Rainfall was a failure because Operation Rainfall is still going on. They won't stop the campaign just because Nintendo says there's no plans yet.

Most of them just don't care about remixes or rereleases. Nearly everyone who likes the Kh series I know of cares more about Kh3 not being released, or even being made, yet.

Why are people surprised by any of this? They are getting ready to focus all their attention on the Wii U now. But with this being NoA they'll probably change their minds before the end of this year and botch the release somehow.

With there being a campaign behind this, there is going to be an expectation that Xenoblade (at least) will have much higher pre-order to total sales ratio than normal. If they think one in four eventual sales will come from the pre-order campaign launched by operation rainfall and there are only 10-15k pre-orders, then the numbers just don't support a localization. Even 25k might not justify the effort at that level of expectation. If NoA doesn't think they can make money on the game, NoJ has no incentive to push them.

It's still a mistake for the perception they are creating, the damage it is doing to a segment of their fanbase, but it's one based in fiscally conservative planning. Basically they are saying that the few people pushing for this are a loud but ultimately small part of their fanbase whose opinion could undermine their overall goals. If operation rainfall pushed Xenoblade/Monado preorders to the point that it was a safe bet financially, they'd be all over that. That's clearly not the case.

No, it's not literally impossible for that to happen. Failing to hit 100k is a realistic probability, even if it's a highly unlikely one. If the numbers said they'd do better than that and that it'd be enough to make a profit I doubt they'd hesitate to localize the game.

The game has already been localized. It's being released in Europe and Australia.

And I haven't been following this too closely except offhand comments from friends and the occasional ragerant on reddit, so 30k whatever, oh well.

Nintendo's made it clear they are going after the hardcore market with Wii U in America, they are probably not caring at this point what Xenoblade would sell. I'm going to play it either way, so it doesn't really matter. Import can get my money and show of support.

Brittish localization is not the same as NA localization regardless of it being in English. It's good enough for me and many others, but it will have the effect of "losing" buyers if the British version is released in the US. Blame that on the American consumer.
