See, we've already had two people in this topic say Fluttershy's overrated for the exact reasons I said. I wasn't making this up!

Man does anyone remember that one site that had all those statistics about pony screentime? I could've sworn Rainbow Dash actually has the least.

Pinkie Pie's too divisive to be most popular. There's a core contingency who rate Pinkie Pie #1, but among those who don't rank Pinkie Pie #1, she's generally among the bottom-ranking members of the mane cast. I suppose she's wacky and has a unique sense of humor, and you either 'get' her or you 'don't.'

Twilight actually has the exact opposite problem. Everyone likes her, because there's so little to her that's offensive. But because the's the main character and often plays a straight and narrow role in interactions, she tends not to be the character that anyone loves most.

So in the "Save My" contest, for example, Twilight almost never gets anyone's first votes (everyone always prefers another pony more) but she'll always make a huge late surge once everyone can vote again, because she's usually everyone's "2nd favorite" of the remaining mane characters. Pinkie on the other hand almost always starts off very strong when her core pushes her to victory, but then her support drops off the face of the Earth, because almost no one views her as their "2nd favorite" pony.

...And Fluttershy typically dominates throughout because she is by far the most popular, and she also benefits from a personality that very, very few fans rank outside their top two or three. When it's down to only two or three mane characters, everyone who supported the mane characters that were eliminated usually rallies around Fluttershy. No one holds a grudge against her if she eliminates their favorite character, because she's adorable.

First time it was Fluttershy > Rainbow Dash and second time it was Fluttershy > Spike in the finals, so at least we'll get a new final match this time.

...I have run far too many of those contests to have microanalyzed them so much.

Edit: The two biggest differences I've noticed between B8's MLP fanbase and others: Rarity is more popular here than the norm, while Spike is less popular here than the norm.

Well, Applejack definitely does have the fewest episodes and generally awesome moments, but that's exactly the problem. Right now, to me, she's just a much less interesting character than the other five. That's all there is to it. I don't dislike her, but I don't like her nearly as much as the other five.

AJ needs a crazy feat of her own in season 2

Fluttershy has FlutterRAGE

Twilight has Magic Overload

Rainbow Dash has Sonic Rainboom

Pinkie Pie has warping and crazy mode etc

Rarity has WHiiiiinniiiing etc

The thing for me is that Applejack kind of comes off as sort of a mary sue. Unlike the other characters, she doesn't really show any fatal flaw that puts her in a really funny situation. She's stubborn in Applebuck Season, I guess, but I don't really buy it, and I'm in sort of a minority in finding that episode boring. She just needs a really funny episode revolving around her before I can really get behind her at all.

I actually think Applejack's characterization would be ruined if she had some crazy quirk like Crazy Pie or Angryshy.

As the Element of Honesty, I dunno, it just feels like she's supposed to be the most stable of the ponies. She's a little stubborn, yes, but she's not supposed to fly off the handle.
In fact, the episode where Applejack is overworked and actually does start acting strange is one of my least favorite episodes precisely because I find her actions in that episode so unbelievable. I can see Pinkie Pie or Fluttershy or even Rainbow Dash losing themselves due to a lack of sleep, but Applejack's too responsible for that.

Yeah it's the fact that Applejack seems a bit out of character in Applebuck Season that bothers me too. But I still don't think that doesn't mean you can't have fun with her. At least for the stability thing, I think that Twilight shares Applejack's duty as the voice of reason in the show, yet she still has plenty of room to be quirky.

Considering the creator of this show is intimately involved with the creator of that show, I'd say that's not terribly surprising!

This show's nothing like Powerpuff Girls anyway. I guess people say it is because of the whole "show with female main cast with a large male viewership" but it's not even really similar in that way.

Applejack is great. Applebuck Season was a pretty good episode, even though the writing and the motive behind it is kind of silly (then again, it's a kid's show). Also, Applejack just generally has the best voice.

Really? Well, either way, it is a show that can be enjoyed by people of all genders and ages, and the same can be said about MLP. At least that's what everyone says - I haven't seen a full episode of MLP myself.
