680 of the most popular fictional characters in the world have gathered together to let Board 8 decide who among them is the Most Excellent! The characters stem from all corners of the media world including; Films, TV Shows, Cartoons, Anime, Disney, Videogames, and Literature.
The first round of the tournament will be decided by allotting points to each pool of 10 contestants. This is the easiest way to narrow the large field in the beginning. The subsequent rounds will feature more unique ways of narrowing the field. ALL subsequent rounds will consider previous performances when deciding who the characters will face next. The first round will be the only randomized one.
Athos Pool: 33 John A. Zoidberg (Futurama) 24 Elmer Fudd (Looney Tunes) 19 Shaggy Rogers (Scooby-Doo Where Are You?) 9 Seto Kaiba (Yugi-oh) 0 Harry Potter (Harry Potter Series) __________________________________ -1 Tallahassee (Zombieland) -5 Norbert Beaver (2 Angry Beavers) -25 Sora (Kingdom Hearts) -26 Schala (Chrono Trigger) -28 Tyrion Lannister (A Song of Ice and Fire)
Aramis Pool: 33 Mufasa (Lion King) 23 Aragorn (The Lord of the Rings) 20 Inigo Montoya (The Princess Bride) 11 Jack Bauer (24) 0 Tarzan (Tarzan) __________________________________ -3 Yuna Braska (Final Fantasy X) -14 Lightning (Final Fantasy XIII) -19 Joey Tribbiani (Friends) -24 Kevin McCallister (Home Alone) -27 Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm)
Porthos Pool: 22 Marty McFly (Back to the Future) 22 Dr. Turk (Scrubs) 17 Snoopy (Peanuts) 19 Manny Calavera (Grim Fandango) 14 Calvin (Calvin & Hobbes) __________________________________ 8 Wolverine (Marvel Comics) -3 Derek Zoolander (Zoolander) -25 Scarlett OHara (Gone with the Wind) -36 Master Chief (Halo) -38 Ed the Undying (Kingdom of Loathing)
Day 1 is in the books!
Biggest Surprises: Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die! What a great performance from Inigo in a tough bracket. Seto Kaiba and Manny Calavera also get shout outs for impressive runs.
Biggest Letdowns: I like Zombieland. However, that was a tough division for poor Tallahassee. Still, the biggest letdown award by far goes to Wolverine. Even with adamantium claws, Marvels poster boy couldnt cut through the first round. Youre a mess, bub.
Maniac64 posted... -28 Tyrion Lannister (A Song of Ice and Fire)
Damn, I thought Tyrion was a popular ASoIaF character. And I thought Game of Thrones would give him another boost.
I just started watching Game of Thrones and haven't read the books. I think he's the best character the show has to offer next to the child actor that plays Ned's adventurous youngest daughter.
Tyrion is probably the best character I've seen in any work of fiction. Not just my favorite, I really think he's the best character I've read about objectively.
Evillordexdeath posted... I imagine his problem is that many people weren't familiar with him.

Notability is going to play a huge role in this contest. If you're not known, you're going to get -4s out the ass in lieu of any characters that are easily hated.
Did... did we just lose Tallahassee to a character from Yu-Gi-Oh? Yeah yeah, I know about the whole "Screw the rules, I have money" thing... but still. Tallahassee is my favorite film character since CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow.
Setting that aside, this contest is off to a great start. Snoopy > Calvin? Yes please!

My biggest surprise from the first three pools probably has to be Tarzan getting through in a tough pool. Disappointments? Well, I'm a bit surprised at Norbert not making it through, but the biggest disappointment has to be Ed the Undying placing dead last (no pun intended).
In today's pools, disappointments probably go to Walter Bishop and Liz Lemon--Bishop for getting absolutely buried, Lemon for currently being in a very tenuous situation in a pool where of my four minuses, only the -1 went to a character I actually knew, with the -4 going to a character whose franchise I'd never even heard of, I'm guessing it's a movie. Biggest surprise has got to be Dale Gribble, if only because Beavis is in last place in the same pool. I wouldn't have expected such a huge disparity in the performance of the two Mike Judge characters.

Ulti (in one of his Post-Contest Analyses): God of War turned a 5 hour deadlock into a total laugher Anagram: Oh God, Tidus and Yuna were involved?

Definitely go rent Braveheart. One of the best movies out there. Dexter is a hell of a show too. Serial killer who only kill murderers. Can't go wrong with that plot.
Triple Double Pool: 36 Buzz Lightyear (Toy Story) 26 Charizard (Pokemon RBY) 13 Sub-Zero (Mortal Kombat) 9 Michael Scott (The Office) 8 Donatello (TMNT) _______________________________ -8 Quasimodo (Hunchback of Notre Dame) -12 James 'Sawyer' Ford (Lost) -12 Crono (Chrono Trigger) -19 Kurt Angle (WWE/TNA) -41 D (Vampire Hunter D)
Hat Trick Pool: 21 Rawk Hawk (Paper Mario: TTYD) 18 Krusty the Clown (The Simpsons) 19 Grumpy (Snow White and the Seven Dwarves) 6 Asuka Langely Soryu (Neon Genesis Evangelion) 3 Arthur Mitchell (Dexter) ________________________________ 1 Liz Lemon (30 Rock) 0 William Wallace (Braveheart) -17 Giant Catfish (Touhou) -19 John "Scottie" Ferguson (Vertigo) -32 Moist von Lipwig (Discworld)
Cycle Pool: 27 Emperor Palpatine (Star Wars) 18 Dale Gribble (King of the Hill) 15 Articuno (Pokemon RBY) 7 Venom (Marvel Comics) 6 Porky Minch (Mother Series) _________________________________ 1 Elizabeth Swann (Pirates of the Caribbean) -12 Astro Boy (Astro Boy) -18 Beavis (Beavis and Butt-head) -20 Nemo (Finding Nemo) -24 Walter Bishop (Fringe)
Day 2 done!
Biggest Surprises: One of us is walking out of here with the belt, and the other one's getting RAWKED! Wtf Rawk Hawk out of nowhere?! Good job to Porky Minch and, honestly, I cant believe Articuno moved on. Good for both of them!
Biggest Letdowns: William Wallace didnt do as good as I expected. Then theres Liz Lemon. But Elizabeth Swann bowing out early is the biggest letdown. There simply werent enough Keira Knightley is hawt votes.
Good results for the most part! I wish Scottie would have advanced, but of course, there was no chance of that happening... only other characters I'll particularly miss are Beavis and Elizabeth.
Also, as great as 30 Rock is, I honestly think Liz is pretty terrible. Glad she didn't move on.

I'm not just interested in seeing which of my noms does the worst, as they all seem destined to not get out of this round. Can Kelsier or Allanon beat Tyrion?

Alright guys, just a forewarning here...but I won't be around tonight to end the round and put up a new one. Early tomorrow afternoon I will be back and will update the results as well as start the next round. Sorry in advance for the delay.
Knievel Pool: 15 Rocko (Rocko's Modern Life) 13 Zuko (Avatar: The Last Airbender) 6 Shrek (Shrek) 6 Doctor Strange (Marvel Comics) 2 Link (Zelda) ____________________________________ -3 Nathan Drake (Uncharted: Drake's Fortune) -3 Ryu Hayabusa (Ninja Gaiden) -5 Luca Blight (Suikoden II) -7 Rick Blaine (Casablanca) -24 Peter Petrelli (Heroes)

Locklear Pool: 20 Hulk (Marvel Comics) 19 Hannibal Lecter (The Silence of the Lambs) 18 Moe Sizlack (The Simpsons) 17 Donkey Kong (Donkey Kong) -1 Speed Racer (Speed Racer) ___________________________________ -3 Fluttershy (My Little Pony) -9 Senator Clay Davis (The Wire) -18 Ren (Ren & Stimpy) -19 Kelsier (Mistborn) -24 Blake Sterling (The Event)
Biggest Surprises: Marvel comics have been doing badly so far in the competition. To see Hulk and Dr. Strange advance is a bit of a surprise. Neon Genesis has been getting a lot of love too. The most surprising to me though was Fluttershy giving a grade A performance that came up just short.
Biggest Letdowns: Ron Burgundy flopped and Kim Possible did worse than expected, but there arent too many big letdowns in these pools.
Meanwhile, out of the three fantasy book characters so far Tyrion came in last (Tyrion, Kelsier, Allanon). Though I fully expect Lightsong to come in worse.

Belly Dancing Pool: 47 Darth Vader (Star Wars) 26 Carmen Sandiego (Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?) 7 Scorpion (Mortal Kombat) 0 Dumbo (Dumbo) -4 Yugi-oh (Yugi-oh) ________________________________ -6 Gunnery Sergeant Hartman (Full Metal Jacket) -9 Spike (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) -13 Wesley Wyndham-Pryce (Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel) -20 Pee Wee Herman (Pee Wee's Playhouse) -28 Straybow (Live A Live)
Biggest Surprises: Carmen is able to take everyone in her pool but the Darth. And Zack made a late run to capture a reasonable amount of points.
Biggest Letdowns: Snow White and Cruella got some big hate early and never recovered. Other than that, Gunnery Sergeant Hartmen going out in round is a huge letdown. That guy is a walking encyclopedia of funny quotes. Also, Buffy seems to not get any love from Board 8.
Brave Pool: 32 Jean-Luc Picard (Star Trek: The Next Generation) 12 Yogi Bear (Yogi Bear) 10 Butters Stotch (South Park) 7 Rorschach (Watchmen) 5 Duke Nukem (Duke Nukem) -1 Annie Edison (Community) -10 Ramza Beoulve (Final Fantasy Tactics) -12 Sephiroth (Final Fantasy VII) -14 Terra (Teen Titans) -29 Sleeping Beauty (Sleeping Beauty)
Loving Pool: 49 Batman (DC Comics) 37 Willy Wonka (Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory) 16 Hamlet (Hamlet) 4 Commander Shepard (Mass Effect 2) -3 Dorothy Gale (The Wizard of Oz) -7 Butthead (Beavis and Butt-head) -9 Arthas Menethil (Warcraft III/World of Warcraft) -14 Admiral William Adama - Battlestar Galactica -25 Akira Toya (Hikaru no Go) -48 Ichigo Kurosaki (Bleach)
Articulate Pool: 24 Andy Dufresne (Shawshank Redemption) 18 The Bride (Kill Bill) 9 Booster Gold (DC Comics) 4 Tidus (Final Fantasy X) 3 Alan (The Hangover) -2 Fei Fong Wong (Xenogears) -5 Xander Harris (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) -12 Zigzagoon (Pokemon) -16 Andy Botwin (Weeds) -23 Professor Nauticalus III (Professor Nauticalus III and Omelette the Cat)
Biggest Surprises: Booster Gold actually has a fan base besides Mega Mana! I had never heard of him personally, but will now read up on him. Also, Alan sneaking in is a pleasant surprise and Wonka ripping through his pool was most unexpected. In other news, Ermine is still the only who likes Zigzagoon, and it is the first Pokemon character to hit the showers early.
Biggest Letdowns: How did Tidus make it but Sephiroth get the boot?! Annie Edison was so close at some points, but due to a lack of viewership no doubt, she faltered down the homestretch. Yet another loss for non-animated TV. In other news, non-animated movies are doing stellar!
Another one to add to my bad nomination list. And another one I can't believe beat Tyrion. -28 Tyrion Lannister (A Song of Ice and Fire) -25 Akira Toya (Hikaru no Go) -23 Allanon (Shannara) -19 Kelsier (Mistborn) -19 Colossus (X-men)

Wow. Board 8 seriously dropped the ball on this one. Dumbo and Yugi get in over these two? COME ON!
Seriously. It's part of what frustrates me on a lot of character contests on the board that include or are exclusive to television shows and their characters. You could have President Bartlett, Arthur Fonzarelli, Omar Little, John Locke, Troy Barnes, and Chuckie Finster in a bracket and it's a guarantee Chuckie advances over all of them. Likewise, Doug Funnie, Darkwing Duck, TJ Dettweiler, Rocko Wallaby, Wakko, and Angel in one match and Angel would still be in fourth.
--
So weve cornered Andy and Kyle in the Swarts stairwell and then this guy comes out of NO WHERE like ****ing Batman or something. ; ExTha is the man
Yeah, I really hate seeing non-animated TV characters do so poorly. Whenever a contest like this comes around, it's basically a guarantee that none of them will do well aside from:
A) Characters from Scrubs. B) GOB. C) George Costanza, and maaaaybe Kramer. D) Dr. House.
I mean, for crying out loud, we lost Annie Edison! I'm not a fan of Community, and I'm still baffled by that - I thought Alison Brie was Board 8's sweetheart. One thing's for sure, though: if we lose Archie Bunker and/or Phil Dunphy, heads will roll!
Anyway, yesterday's results were pretty solid. I'm ecstatic Alan made it through... I'm not the biggest fan of The Hangover, but man, Alan's freakin' awesome!

Shu Pool: 30 Aladdin (Aladdin) 17 Neo (Matrix) 11 Dory (Finding Nemo) 9 Yuri Lowell (Tales of Vesperia) 6 Will Turner (Pirates of the Caribbean) 5 Heie (YuYuHakusho) -3 Hellboy (Dark Horse Comics) -14 Patrick Bateman (American Psycho) -20 Kenji Harima (School Rumble) -41 Shinigami (Konoha's Yellow Flash Really Hates Paperwork)
Wei Pool: 27 Yoshi (Mario) 22 Vash the Stampede (Trigun) 16 Barney Stinson (How I Met Your Mother) 14 Agent Smith (Matrix) 13 Delita Hyral (Final Fantasy Tactics) 0 Angelica Pickles (Rugrats) -17 Aeryn Sun (Farscape) -17 Nucky Thompson (Boardwalk Empire) -25 Watatsuki no Yorihime (Silent Sinner in Blue) -33 Dr. Terumasa Nanjo (Umineko no Naku Koro ni)
Biggest Surprises: Vash the Stampede gets major support from most all users. Barney Stinson suits up to represent non animated TV. Finally, Delita does a LOT better than Ramza.
Biggest Letdowns: Im slightly surprised Megara didnt make the cut. Also, Heie put up a good fight to come up one shy of the tie.
I had never heard of him personally, but will now read up on him.
Well that's to be expected. He's "The Greatest Hero You've Never Heard Of."
My recommendations:
MUST-READS: - 52 (2006). 52 is pretty much the launching point for Booster Gold's current popularity, tells some amazing stories, and is the biggest reason I'm a DC fan now when I barely even touched a DC comic four years ago. - Booster Gold (2007). Booster Gold is to 52 as Nova is to Annihilation. He gets the amazing ongoing. - - Justice League International (1987). It's hilarious and in the top two of Justice Leagues (Grant Morrison's JLA is a tough competitor). It's amazing for a while, but by about Breakdowns (1991/1992), it's dodgy. I wouldn't quit until 1993 after Doomsday.
BACKSTORY: - Booster Gold v1 (1986). I haven't read it, but it establishes a lot of the hero or non-hero Booster once was. - Super Buddies (Formerly Known as the Justice League (2003), I Can't Believe It's Not the Justice League (2005) ). More silly adventures of the core JLI guys. - Countdown to Infinite Crisis, The OMAC Project, & Infinite Crisis (2005). Booster Gold, Blue Beetle, and Maxwell Lord feature heavily and is the basis for 52. - Justice League: Generation Lost (2010). Booster Gold & the JLI. Great read most of the time.
OTHER: - Brightest Day (Justice League: Generation Lost) - Identity Crisis (52, Super Buddies =( )
NON COMIC: - Justice League Unlimited, "The Greatest Story Never Told" - Smallville, "Booster"
