There's a part of me that's curious about the actual content of all those nuked posts, but by the context, I can guess roughly how abhorrent they are and I'm comfortable assuming that my life is better for not having them in it.

The nature of grooming is such that it overwhelms and negates that. It's a long process of normalizing the idea of accepting a sexual relationship with the groomer.

It's like textbook abusive behavior; they manipulate the victim into believing that:

1. the abuser can be trusted. He was raising her, this is an easy thing to cultivate if the abuser is a family member.
2. this "relationship" is normal (but secret), often by calling the victim their girlfriend/boyfriend or saying that they have an arranged marriage planned or something like that. He almost certainly told her long before she was of age that he was going to marry her.
3. (if they are a minor at the time) that if they tell anyone about what is happening, those people will judge/shame the victim.
4. they often give the victim lots of gifts and affection early on. Since he is her wealthy parent, there is obviously no barrier to him engaging in this kind of manipulative behavior.

It can, yes. Grooming is profound psychological abuse. It can do a lot of things that would be considered abnormal.
