I weigh myself daily. On April 7th, I weighed 200lb. On May 7th, I hit 195lb. Between April 7th and May 7th I fluctuated between 195lb and 205lb. Obviously things like Easter parties and end of the semester parties had the weight going up the days succeeding them. I'd say I ate poorly maybe 1/3 of last month and that's why I only lost 5lb that month.

HOWEVER, despite only hitting 195lb on May 7th, I have already weighed in at 192lb today. This is surprising, because it usually takes one week for me to lose about 2-2.5lb.

Is it possible I lost more weight in the past month and I was just retaining more than I thought?

That's just normal fluctuation, 5lb shift day to day is pretty normal

That's like, throughout the day though. You shouldn't weigh more than maybe 1lb pound less than you did the morning before if you typically do the same routine.

So, reset the scale and weight yourself 2 or 3 times. If they are always the same, it probably isn't the scale. If they fluctuate, there is your issue.

There are days when I weight myself 3-4 times and get different weights each time. Most scales I'm familiar with you have to 'touch' the top, wait until it reads zero, then step on.

Your weight fluctuates throughout your daily life normally, so it's hard to say. Don't overfixate on hard numbers too much. What matters is if you feel better/healthier.

One pint of water weighs 1 pound and if you drink 8 cups of water per day that's 4 pints or 4 pounds, so you can easily gain or lose several pounds of water over the course of a day just by drinking, sweating, and peeing.

The best thing to do is weigh yourself at the same time every day, wearing the same clothes (or lack thereof). I weigh myself in the morning after I use the toilet but before I eat or drink anything and I do it without any clothes on, that way things are as consistent as I can get them.

The scale doesn't dictate weight loss.

You need to measure yourself at regular intervals at consistently the same time of day assuming your lifestyle and eating habits are equally as consistent. With this data you should be tracking trends and not comparing the number to yesterdays number.

If possible also take measurements of waistline if you have a measuring tape if you're tracking weight loss.
