Looking over ESPN's "Best Available" to see who didn't get drafted. Third guy on the list (FS Verone McKinley) was a sophomore. OUCHIES. Guy was too eager. Like most sophomores, he wasn't ready for the NFL.

He was a Redshirt junior, not a Sophomore.

Ahh, okay. Definitely will take your word for it before ESPN's... Note to self: Do not trust ESPN stating what someone's year in school was.

Thanks! I will rescind my prior statement.

If they're redshirted, it lists them as a year "behind" since they saved a year of eligibility. A true sophomore isn't eligible for the NFL draft because you have to be three years removed from high school before you can declare.

Punters and Kickers being taken early by multiple teams tends to mean a weak draft class (which this was.)
This was a great class for DEs and WRs... Not much else.

Mr. Irrelevant was a quarterback!

Also both the Giants and Jets are getting universally high draft grades and praise.

Truly we have entered an alternate timeline.

The Giants took too long to admit Gettleman was a mistake. Constant reaches in the first round especially, stubborn about trades, and the Barkley pick will go down among the worst in franchise history as a pick that set them back for years.

For many many years that will be the cautionary tale about not taking an RB at #2.

The guy could not draft a competent O-Lineman to save his life. He thought he was smarter than everyone else.

They still have a big problem now. They're still stuck with the QB he reached for at 6 that would've been there at 17, and they're going to win not enough games to be relevant, but too many games to have a good enough draft pick.

So either they need to pick off a QB in free agency, or they need to pick a more developmental QB they hope pans out and franchise Jones next year to keep him as a bridge quarterback, which means paying him a ton of money for a QB they know isn't their future.

Nah, Trent Richardson is the cautionary tale that stopped most teams from drafting RBs in the top ten (or even first round entirely) anymore. Barkley was actually good when he was healthy. He just couldn't stay healthy often enough.

But on that note, Lamar Jackson has the second most career rushing yards of his draft class. Only Nick Chubb has more.

They took him at #2.

We'll see a first round running back again.

We're never seeing a #2 again. Ever.

Wasn't Ereck Flowers a Gettleman pick?

Because I think it was Gruden who said "The Giants would be better with a turnstile at left tackle than Ereck Flowers" during a primetime game.

And he was right.

They may have to if they simply don't have any other quarterback that's ready to play. They won't be drafting high enough to get an immediately ready to start day 1 guy, which means free agency.

There's not much difference between taking Barkley at 2 and Richardson at 3. Richardson being the enormous bust that he was is what kickstarted the trend away from taking RBs high with very few exceptions since.

I wouldn't put it past someone like Jerry falling in love with some big name running back and taking him high like he did with Zeke, so I won't say it'll never happen again.

And there will be better options in free agency than Jones next season. Heck, there's nothing stopping them from still trading for Baker or Jimmy G.

The Giants are nowhere near good enough yet to win with those guys either. They're not worth throwing picks at unless it comes really cheap.

Well, at this point, the Browns have zero leverage and can't keep Baker, so it probably won't take much to trade for him and get Cleveland to pay most of his salary.

If 9-8 makes the playoffs again, I think Baker at QB can at least keep them in the picture, though he won't stop them from being dumped quickly even if they pull that off.

I 100% expect the Giants to lose an early game they should've had on a Daniel Jones fumble. Baker wins them that game, at least.

Nick Foles would be a great bridge quarterback, yes, and shouldn't be all that expensive. I have no idea who the Giants backup QB even is... Oh, Tyrod Taylor. Honestly, I thought they had a worse backup than that.

Foles is still worth a ring though.

To be fair it didn't matter what they found, that's what they were going to say.

Flores is in court right now because the NFL wants Goddell to be the arbiter in his case against the NFL and they're obviously arguing how asinine that is.

I'm feeling very pessimistic as a Broncos fan. Without any real improvements to our Oline I feel like we will be a middle of the road team fighting for 3rd in our division and in two seasons Russell Wilson will leave in Free Agency and we will be in a worse place than we were before the big trade having no QB and no day one draft picks for the previous 2 years.

As far as the Broncos go, I don't see them as a playoff team. Not in that division and with the rest of the AFC being so stacked.
