keyword here is attempt. i have started at least half of these saying i would check them out and just haven't gotten back to them yet. i will now make SERIOUS attempts to either finish them or will end up dropping them for good. i guess this will mostly be me talking to myself but i also want to see if keeping some sort of record does anything for me. maybe i'll just give up at some point who knows.

the rule i'm setting for myself is that i can't add anything new to the log unless there's space and i can't go over 100 (will periodically lower the limit). i don't think that will be much of a problem since there's not much i'm looking forward to at the moment.

When I said SERIOUS attempt though it doesn't mean I'm going to force myself to finish every one of them. If I find myself in the middle of a playthrough and I'm not really liking it enough to finish, I will drop it. And at that point I will be fine with NEVER finishing that game. I mean there's a very good chance that there will be a couple drops along the way. Like Final Fantasy XV? Pretty good chance it doesn't make it off this list alive tbh.

I've got something like 300 games on my backlog. If they average 20 hours to finish and I play 20 hours a week, it would take 6 years to clear the list.

Of course, that's missing 2 very key things:

• Games continue to come out
• I probably only average maybe 10-15 hours a week

All of which is to say that I'm NEVER getting through my backlog. Well, unless I win the lottery and don't have to work anymore. ...But then if that happened I'd probably find other ways to spend my time than sitting on my ass for 50 hours a week.

actually just went to the HLTB page for every game and added the totals as an approximation: 2066 total hours (~86 days). this is of course assuming no drops and my playtimes end up being around the same as the average on the site.

decided to start the NEW YEAR with something comfy so started Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn

actually just bought it a couple days ago fresh off of a 3DS SD card update. after avoiding it for years, the recent Atlus sale got me to finally go through with it and bought Kirby after as well (full price though. nintendo tax)

incredibly charming and i love the style (why i bought it tbh). not sure if i like the narration style cutscenes yet.

forgot that they made it so you can't actually die in the game though until i ran into an enemy.

anyway got through the first stage and then my fucking 3ds battery got low and i don't like playing while it's charging so ended up playing New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe for a bit.

been playing that one on and off for a couple months whenever i had spare time but didn't want to start up a longer game. and not sure about this one crossing the finish line. the game is fine but a lot of the time when i'm playing it, i'm thinking how i'd rather play Donkey Kong Country instead. at the ghost island right now.

Its not going to happen. Theres too much on that list and too much life to interfere.

I don't think clearing the backlog is an impossibility as long as you're not adding to it constantly, mine was down to 40 two years ago.

And then I finally bought a PS4.

i mean mine was at like 200 a year or two ago. the first backlog explosion came for me with my PS3.

and i've been finding that i have very little interest in newer/upcoming titles. what's coming out? only thing i want to play is Project L (League of Legends fighting game) and that shit's like two years away

I've been drilling mine down steadily the past few years I think, but the problem with doing that is that the more games you play, the more new games you find to play.

well i finally played a single player game for a good length of time

but it was Starfox Adventures. i'd imagine not many people here like the game but i have a lot of memories of it so i definitely wanted to at least start a replay.

i got all the white myshrooms and then watched a bunch of youtube videos about the game. will i finish this replay? on the fence tbh. seeing all those videos reminded me of some of the more annoying sections of the game. even though my primary motivation for the replay was to get back to the Test of Strength. but i do really like the world.

SURFING YARN KIRBY aaaaaaaaa

i played some more New Super Mario Bros. U in the morning. i finished the Ghost Land which is like World 4/8 i believe.

still couldn't shake the feeling that i'd rather be playing Donkey Kong Country. and if i'm wondering that much about whether to continue playing it or not, SURELY i should just stop playing it. still a fine 6/10 game but i haven't been EXCITED for any part of it. DROPPED.

Finished 2 games in the past 2 days, Manifold Garden and Even the Ocean. Unfortunately, I'm the type that needs to see things through to the end unless a game is really, really terrible.

I was doing a little winter cleaning of my backlog but I need to do another pass to remove the games I'm never going to play. As of now, there's 79 games I own that I haven't played and another 221 games I haven't bought yet. Not that it makes a huge difference, but if I could trim 10-15 games off those lists that'd be pretty nice.

just found out that a "remastered" edition of Bloodrayne came out and everyone who had it on steam (which includes me) got it for free

main reason i didn't bother playing it was because it didn't run very well. but now i could try it out i guess...and a spot in my backlog did open up

Not that anyone cares but I weeded through my backlog lists and got it down to 66 games I own and 192 I haven't bought yet. I took 42 games off the backlog and now I'm down to a totally, definitely eventually doable 258 games!

replaying this has kind of reffirmed something i already knew but man i hate backtracking. just give me a fast point travel back to the place after i finish the thing.

My own backlog has thrown a wrench into finishing some of my games, as the rubber on my 3DS circle pad just completely disintegrated. Still works but feels awkward.

what game was mostly responsible for that?

i've heard Kid Icarus Uprising a lot for wear like that and i've actually been thinking of getting it on my old 3DS because of that lol

Not sure if it was any one game for me. Don't really play the kinds of games that would get a reputation of being rougher on it, and for the few that might qualify I'm about as laid-back and casual as it comes when playing. Not a lot of abuse needed for turn based rpgs.

If I had to choose something it would be Fantasy Life solely on total time, as I sunk about 120 hours into it if I remember right.

Knocked 3 more off the list. Blasphemous (a Metroidvania),140, and 6180 the moon (both very short music platformers). These are easy pickings but it's nice to finish a whole bunch of games.

How was 6180? I've been thinking of playing it for years but never get around to it for some reason

I actually spent like 30 min playing Genshin Impact yesterday since I had a spot open on my list. Unsure if I like it yet. Probably wont play much more but I'm going to look up some vids to see if there's any cool looking stuff I can do

Played more KIRBY. In the beanstalk level I found the ice(?) upgrade which is my fav so far because it gives you a little upward boost on a jump. It feels pretty weird having no extra jumps naturally in a kirby game so that improved the "feel" of the game for me

Liked the little detail of the balloon waddle dees struggling when you get on top of their balloons

I am a big Samurai Shodown fan and can tell you right off the bat- once you beat it in Arcade Mode with a few characters and fiddle with everyone in Vs. at least once against someone, you can probably drop it, which only takes a few hours, if that.

yeah that's how it is with fighting games unless i really like it and try to find matches on multiplayer but i've seen that the online for SS is NOT GOOD so who knows with that

SS is one of the few games on the list that i actually don't have access to at the moment since i've been waiting for it to go on sale for like a year or something too -_-

Star Fox Adventures Update

went to Pterodactyl land and saved the Queen. Now I have to go and save her babies. The funniest thing is after you save her babies, she says "Here's your reward" and it's her just pressing a fucking switch so you can get the second Spellstone and then she says "Now you can save our planet" or some shit

yes your reward is now the CHANCE to put yourself in mortal danger and save us because we can't do anything by ourselves

i'm wondering if i'm even going to finish this now. 50% now and i'm almost at the Test of Strength which was my main motivation for playing. i might end up just dropping the replay once i get there because there's a lot of frustrations here. i like the concept and characters and the adventure as a whole but all the little annoyances in gameplay are starting to grind my gears a little

I never understand people that buy games and not finish them. Sure you say well I like it and I found it cheap but still. Offers are there every day. Does like 10 dollars more matter?

Finally got to teh Test of Strength in Star Fox Adventures

when i was a kid, i was stuck on that for so long that I gave up on the game for a while before looking on GAMEFAQS DOT COM and finding out about the pen trick where you basically take a pen and rub it over the A Button

revisiting the game, i wanted to at least get to that point again to see if the part that gave me so much trouble was actually because it was hard or it was just my tiny pea-brain child fingers who couldn't press a button fast enough

it turns out it was actually because i was a kid because i beat it within like 5 seconds this time. well then. that's that.

Overall, Star Fox Adventures is an okay game but man i got tired of the constant backtracking (something i already knew about myself). i like the idea of the game, the characters, and parts of it more than the whole. but now it's time to put this game on the shelf.

so after that, we're still at 100 games lol. added Genshin to the list since i'm still checking it out. and a spot opened up after Star Fox so i put Pokemon Legends Arceus on it. have only seen a couple screenshots for it and don't know much about it but it's a Pokemon game that's coming out soon so i had to put it on the list. probably won't get it for a while though.

now i need to pick another "main" game to play now that I'm done with Star Fox and Kirby is my pick up and play game.

I strongly recommend Persona 5 Royal, DQXI, FFXV, Nier Automata, Odyssey, Twilight Princess, or Katamari Damacy

P5 is a little daunting at the moment since it's so long and i've already done NG+ for vanilla so i'm not in a rush

hmm yeah out of those i might go with Odyssey or Katamari since they feel like what i'm in the mood for right now. never played Odyssey before and started Katamari years ago and never finished but i got Reroll on Switch

Katamari Reroll is a pretty short game if that's what you're feeling right now

no idea if i'm right on this but Katamari feels like more of a "pick up and play" game so if that's the case I'll put it off until i at least finish with Kirby because it's a similar mood for me

played more Genshin today

the coolest thing about the game by far is that you can climb up ANYTHING. i was so hyped when i just randomly jumped on a building wall and my character started climbing it

this little fairy girl character is pretty annoying though and none of the character designs REALLY grab me. i was off on my way to the temple for the main quest battling a dragon or something and it was suggested to me that i go to the blacksmith. told me to get some IRON CHUNKS where i discovered that i was blind because i could not find them for the longest time once i got to the "QUEST AREA" and then when i went to the blacksmith again, all i got was a fucking ORB! i thought i was getting a weapon or something!

so anyway, it looks like it could be fine. i like the feel of moving around with being able to climb all over things (again, so fucking cool) and gliding. however, i know it's a big timesink game and i found out that the roll rates for the characters are absurdly low. so yeah i think i'm going to stop before getting deeper into it.

it does make me want to play a Tales game though...
