As in, the government targets anyone with a gun and comes over to take the guns.

How would this end up working out?

Probably would result in more people illegally buying guns in a panic and keeping their old ones also.

I'm not convinced a guy who grew up in rural Kansas would be that naive about gun control.

Unfortunately you run into a couple problems with mass gun abduction on a grand scale the size of America. First of all the size. We're talking 330 million people. To recover all firearms would take a very long time and willing participants to retrieve or give their firearms away.

You might be able to get 1/3-1/2 of them to give their guns back; closer to half if you add some incentives. But after that you have people who don't feel comfortable leaving their home unprotected, people who don't like having their freedom taken away, and general nutjobs who feel the need to walk into a 7/11 with an open firearm.

The only real solution to this problem in my opinion is to change the ammunition. Either through redesigning your bullet so it has less penetrating power but still hurts like hell, which will probably never happen; or changing the price of ammunition so you can't just grab a pack for the cost of a few subway sandwiches; meaning that you have to make your ammunition count.

But of course, then you get illegal arms dealers willing to sell these things for regular price as long as they are making a profit.

So

Make guns less viable for lower income people, and make training with your firearms cost prohibitive?

Nah, not interested in getting rid of guns.

Gonna need those for defense/deterrence the next time the GOP gets power.

Plans for mass weapons confiscation has very little chance of success in a nation like the USA.

Whenever a politician puts that on their ticket and says it's a priority in their campaign, it's generally all bluff to pander for free votes. Free votes from idealistic suckers...

If your buying a gun it can be provided for free, same with the first box of ammunition. And besides I'm not jacking up the price of guns, just the ammunition, so at the very least it isn't in the convenience store range. The goal isn't to take away your guns, just make sure that the ammunition is used more wisely.

This is completely illogical. I'd rather see guys using ammo for fun at the range than saving every bullet for nefarious purposes.

having fun at the range I can understand. Nothing wrong with that. And maybe that is something that the government should look into reducing the cost of the ammo there for recreational use at the range; or even having the option to sign up for a monthly service where you get a hundred free rounds at the range. But for private use just for the home for protection of ones family 1 box of 50 ammo should be more than enough.

But I'm just offering thoughts on a matter that doesn't necessarily concern me. Think I'm done trying to get my point across.

And the fear of someone coming to take all the guns and ammo makes the market skyrocket because everyone is buying up the ammo
