Been watching all Friday the 13th films. Just finished Part IX.

Fellow audience member asked me "So was it all a dream?" after the Freddy Krueger cameo. Never thought of it like that. Decent way to write off this installment.

The only thing I remember about the final stretch of Jason movies is the one guy who threw hands with him in New York and got his head slapped, like, a full city block.

It's one of my favorite and adds to the lore of Jason. Skip Jason X, it's worse than this one, i know it's one of my favorites but it has its bad moments which is often. But it adds a lot to the lore which is more than Jason X does.

jason X has very likable characters and some creative kills
but it doesnt have any genuine scary moments. other than when jason first wakes up. that is the only time it feels like its a horror movie

This is hilarious

The camping scene with the ill-fated Luke, Deborah and Alexis, was not part of the original script. When test audiences in early 1993 complained about the lack of sex and teenaged characters, the scene was subsequently written and filmed during a new shoot.

Coming from a huge F13 fan, i absolutely HATED it.

The plot was so incredibly dumb. Jason body hopping, the magic dagger, 'only a voorhees can kill a voorhees', the demonic worm thing etc etc etc made the movie so fucking awful.

Plus we don't get to actually see Jason as Jason except for the beginning and a tiny bit at the end. I remember the director saying he wanted fans to 'miss Jason so that when they get him back in the end its like a huge present.' So we get to sit through an hour or more of his shitty plot and garbage script only for Jason to come back for a handful of minutes in the end.

If you like it, fine, all the power to you. But IMO you'd have to try really hard to make a shitter F13 movie. Jason X isnt perfect but its leagues better than this.

i dont like final guys in horror movies
mainly because writers are afraid of letting them be scared or vulnerable
the friday has 2 films in it with a male protagonist hence a final guy

tommy in part 6
and steven in jason goes to hell

tommy is an example of a final guy done right. i always felt like he was in over his head and that made him easier to relate to

steven had glasses and they thought that would distract that he acted like he walked in from a different genre, jumping out of handcuffs making action movie quips in serious scenes joking around with his cop buddy while people are dying.

hell jessica doesn even show up until 40 minutes into jason goes to hell

I actually thought Jason Goes To Hell wasn't that bad. It does seemingly mess with the lore, but JX and FvJ both have continuity errors.

Part 9 really makes me want Freddy vs Jason vs Ash. They set it up. Give it to me.

Cunningham gets props for directing the first movie, and this was his first time back since then. He is on record saying he dislikes Jason and it showed in this movie. It was awful.

That's why he should just move on. He is why the series is in limbo right now. He wants to collect $$$ for a series he doesn't even like. He only directed the first movie and Goes To Hell. He didn't even come up with adult Jason, or the infamous hockey mask. He deserves nothing other than credit for being behind the camera in the first film and whatever money that movie and Goes To Hell continues to make.
