my fiancee had a friend who thought eating chocolate cake was keto because it used buttercream.

those chocolate cakes were 600 calories per slice.

It's not about being healthy, it's about turning your body into a literal fat burning machine.

Because your body has a natural way of processing fat when it has no carbs?

what IS the research on this any way? the body normally burns fat so whatever. if you simply dont eat more calories than you burn, youll burn the fat.

are they saying keto reduces the fact that you might burn muscle? isn't that only an issue once your body fat gets super low like 15% or so?

This isn't completely true, but essentially instead of storing fat and using carbs as energy your body just straight uses the fat when you're in ketosis

No

This. There are probably healthy ways to do keto but that's not usually why I see people try it. More often I see people just wanted to burn fat quickly rather than be healthy.

I'm only going from the top of my head from memory, so I might be posting some things that are factually wrong (so anyone can correct me), but I think the idea behind keto is putting your body into a Ketosis state (where the fat is now the primary fuel for the body). It does this by making you eat a high fat diet with no carbs because carbs is usually the first thing your body burns.

Personally for me, it's easier to do CICO than Keto because I like carbs too much.

There are some other principles at work; fat calories tend to produce more of a satiated feeling than carb calories so it's easier to eat less. And if your body doesn't have an pressing need for energy from your carb calories it tends to immediately convert them to body fat.

Just cause you can eat bacon and cheese doesn't mean that's all you can/should eat.

But keto is just a pretty shitty diet plan for your average person. It's expensive for one, and you're gonna feel like shit trying to get your body into ketosis.

The keto Fever? I didnt get one. That being said, keto doesnt mean just eat anything that isnt carbs! That being said, almost anything I eat is healthy. My meals now consist mostly of chicken, salmon, steak, any type of veggies. You should supplement It with a good exercise regimen.

Yup, gat saturates and carbs will spike your insulin which will just make you crave more carbs

It does initially because your body is converting itself into a new dietary process. People USED to go into keto all the time because of the way our meals were spread out as hunter gatherers, but now is a completely "new" state as food is more readily available and carbs have become so readily available for us to consume.

Keto also lends itself really nicely to intermittent fasting. You don't get as many cravings or sudden bursts of hunger with keto, so it becomes easy to only eat at very specific time periods as your body always has fat available to convert to energy.

What exactly do you think our ancestors ate for literally a million years? Bread was only invented 10,000 years ago. Our species alone is a few hundred thousand years old, let alone the entire human genome. Our main source of food was meat. Most of the time if we did t have meat we starved. This is why the human body is built for starvation and can go upwards of weeks without food. Otherwise just eating meat is perfectly healthy if you throw in some fruits or vegetables once in a while.

I tried keto and felt really unhappy on it. My migraines were better but it didnt feel sustainable as a diet. I much preferred the Mediterranean diet. I felt a lot more satisfied on it.

You can do healthy and unhealthy versions of it.

I do think ultimately with diets you just gotta be common sense about it.

I tried Keto for a while. If I just lived on my own, I could do it well enough. But with my wife and kids here, I found it really hard to stick to it.

I do most of the cooking, and they wouldn't eat keto. So, I would have to either cook two seperate meals or cook just for myself, which always put my wife in a pissy mood.

That's lazy keto. Healthy proteins. No refined sugars, low carb. In the end it's all about a calorie deficit.
