You don't get the nostalgia that way If the cartoon is good, you can still appreciate them even without the nostalgia. All I remember from watching Tiny Toons as a kid is the opening. The problem with Ren and Stimpy is that it was pretty funny... for about six episodes. After the first few, the novelty wore off, John K. basically went insane and just kept trying to top himself with gross-out humor and pushing the envelope, and then Nickelodeon eventually fired him and the whole show sort of felt soulless and lame. So if you're just watching stuff randomly today, you've got like an 90% chance of seeing one of the terrible bits, and only about a 10% chance or so of seeing one of the shorts that actually made people fond of the show at the time. Plus, like Zebatov sort of implied, it was a kids' show. So if you're watching it 30 years later as an adult, you're not even remotely going to get anything out of it like you would have if you were a kid in 1990.
