i wanted a CHANCE to win the world series. FInally, there is a non-zero chance. Selling to a guy who not only is a Mets fan but will reportedly be a "very aggressive spender who badly wants to win". Like that he will be on Yankees/Dodgers levels of spending. And also not be a fucking meddling moron nimrod like those other guys. oh my god. its here. my time. its happening.

also all this on the heels of the mets walking off the yankees in yankee stadium, an away team walking off something that hadn't happened since 1899

AND on the heels of all the stuff that went down 2 days ago with the Mets poignant walkoff / refusal to play for the racial injustice stuff being overshadowed by the Brodie hot mic slamming Rob Manfred , and on top of all the emotional Dominic Smith stuff. man its been a wild fucking week.

I assume most of you saw Dom's interview and the kneeling and such, really emotional.
If you didn't see the other stuff, basically Brodie was caught on a hot mic/video an hour before the game saying the Mets didn't want to play, and wanted to do a walkoff and Manfred basically wanted to force them to play, allowing them to do the walkoff but wanting them to come back an hour later. And he was slamming the shit out of Manfred for this, calling him a bad leader, etc. Then later, he put out a press statement admitting he thought it was Manfred's idea to force them to play but it was actually Jeff Wilpon's (and both the commissioner and both Wilpons put out statements saying the same), and this was very clearly a lie to protect the commissioner... andit really sucks that all that stuff overshadowed the strong message the Mets players were making by taking the field and then doing the walk-off.

And now, we have THE WILPONS IN THE FINAL STAGES OF SELLING THE TEAM TO STEVE COHEN

I'm okay with changes in sports as long as they don't diminish your product. This isn't being anti-change. This is baseball being baseball where they see something they perceive as popular happen once, and they decide they should just make it permanent, like the All-Star Game deciding home field in the World Series or the one game Wild Card.

162 games feels even more excessive than it already does if over half the teams make the playoffs.

They could easily sort that out and expand the playoffs at the same time. They aren't doing that.

On top of that, MLB refuses to expand until the A's and Ray's have a new stadium or a new home.

The process on that has basically made 0 progress in 2020. Taken steps backwards on that front even.

So MLB is further from expansion than it was last season.
