It literally represents an insurrectionist army that tried for four years to fight and take over the US. Even ignoring the fucked up slavery aspect of it, its anti American and youre supporting traitors that hated America.

I mean... yes, the civil war was largely about slavery, but it couldn't have been ONLY about slavery... right?

So were the Confederate States of America.

It didn't "try to take over the US," it was a war for independence.

DirtBasedSoap posted...
Even ignoring the fucked up slavery aspect of it,

The US literally won its independence largely to preserve slavery which Britain had been phasing out. Even if the Civil War was largely about slavery, so was the Revolutionary War.

DirtBasedSoap posted...

Or rather patriots who loved the original vision of America. Compare that to Antifa which burns US flags at their rallies.

OtakuD50 posted...

They still fought for a USA they believed in, they just had to change the name for branding reasons because otherwise it'd be confusing.

DirtBasedSoap posted... oh yeah, what did they want state rights for again?

To not be mass-murdered for protesting a whiskey tax shortly after they'd just fought a war in which they protested a tea tax?

Trying to rehab the reputation of the Confederacy is pretty much a classic case of feels over reals. "B-b-but I want my great great grandpappy to have not been fighting for slavery or at least have been in some way justified in doing so!"

Sorry, bucko; you don't see me trying to make excuses for fascist Italy just because my grandfather was in their army. Grow the fuck up.

No. I'd say the most 'anti-American' symbol is the Soviet Russian flag. After all, a system in which the individual is completely subservient to the state and government and effectively holds little to no rights with everything being given to the dialectic/corruption/etc sounds like the exact OPPOSITE of everything America stands for (individualism, freedom, personal rights, etc).

The confederate flag represents a lot of things. Slavery is certainly one of them but, IMO, I'd wager that a lot of people who wave it see it as being a representation that they rebelled against a government that would have ruined them and, at least for a short time, managed to be independent. That it was because of slavery is tragic, but that's not why they wave it. Course, being a northerner, I can't really say.

*shrug* Says a lot about the USA that tankie symbolism is the opposite of The USA over treason flags and Nazi flags. Certainly we have more in common with fascists, lol. And I fucking have tankies. Also those traits you listed off were ridiculous and don't even deserve a response.

The confederate flag represents a lot of things. Slavery is certainly one of them , but
No buts.

That it was because of slavery is tragic, but that's not why they wave it.
For many it absolutely is. You're naive; I live in an area where a popular pastor has confederate flag on his property and claims that slavery is moral as long as the slaveowner is a Christian. Over a thousand people go to his church and his religious "schools."

People always think that I'm talking about some fringe kook with no power. I'm not. He is a popular and powerful figure (debated Christopher Hitchens, his books are regularly cited by other creeps, and his "lectures" on things like "the virtues of sexism" have gone viral... He who bemoans the loss of the confederacy (calls himself a paleoconfederate) and advocates for the dismantling of women's rights (to vote, play sports, work, have money, etc) and the killing of LGBT+ people who he says (unsurprisingly) are more sinful than slaveowners. Oh, and he blackmailed a rape victim in his congregation to protect her male rapist because the girl obviously tempted the man and he went before a judge to reduce the sentence of a literal infant rapist, so you know this guy's the real deal.
http://moscowid.net/2016/02/27/fifty-shades-of-guile/

His church buys up as much commercial property in this city as they can not just to turn a tax-free profit but because they- I shit you not- want to take over the town so they can use the college to spread to other towns like a fucking plague. And if you think that sounds conspiratorial... The reason I know that is because that's what he told my parents and many other people around his age when he was in school he intended to do to get rich, lol. People now avoid selling land to him so he gets members of his church to buy places instead to try and bypass opposition. They also run people for local government positions every election to try and secure their profits and control. People like him are all over the place and no, they do not love the confederate flag for cutesy rebel heritage state rights reasons.
