Completed the Baldesion Arsenal for the first time last night! Damn that was a rush. Now to flex on scrubs with the mount!

first time clear of BA feels so good. I think its a lot better now, the discords have runs set up very well - back when it was fresh, you had lots of people trying to call out mechanics they didn't even really understand, so there were LOTS of ozma wipes just due to people telling you to do stuff that will get you killed.

Nowadays, the only fears are accel bombs and meteors from newcomers.

I cleared Coils yesterday. I definitely still don't understand the mechanics in a lot of the fights, though!
Also Allisae's voice actress is probably the most improved from ARR to HW...!

I'm also making my way through Il Mheg. I probably encountered the worst healer I've had so far while doing Dohn Mheg.... the rest of the party ended up abandoning it after two bosses. Also I'm very confused about the pixies referring to Titania as a "king." Should Titania be a queen and Oberon a king??

If you ever find a group willing to suffer through unpolished content, I really enjoyed doing the could synced and would highly recommend trying them if you get the chance

Yeah, definitely try out BCoB at level 50 if you can assemble a party for it. There's a reason it's excluded from roulettes (and not just because it's too difficult for most players to be able to beat); it's unlike any content that's come since. Certain abilities and mechanics it was balanced around don't exist anymore, although the Echo mitigates some of that. I'm glad I went through it at min ilvl the first time through, I don't think it would have had the same impact if I were just watching cutscenes and then immediately dps'ing them down.

Pixies are effectively barbie dolls, they don't have gender and are literally born from the souls of children.

Thirding (because I was part of this group). Min ilevel coils was an absolutely wonderful rush. I think nothing has topped the sense of wonder I got from popping LB3 during Bahamut's teraflare as the music swells yet. Just absolute perfect harmony of gameplay and story right there as we all tried to do our desperate best to mitigate massive damage.

and then the panic heals as your main tank gets a stack marker as bahamut is flame breathing and starts casting akh morn

Yeah T3 was the jumping puzzle, and T4 was the elevator of adds.

T1/T2/T5 are the only real raids in the first coil

And I openly admit if I went back and did T5 fresh now I wouldn't like it as much. But hey, I did it when I did it, so I like it

T5 was quite annoying to solo at ~70!

I guess technically i didnt solo it; I was escorting a mid 50s player from my FC through when I managed to do it (before failing to solo T7). Then I just steamrolled through the rest this weekend with a few 80s from my FC (though we still wiped like 3 or 4 times on T9... do those attacks do percentage-based damage or something?)

dragons on the outside shoot your party members with ice attacks, and occasionally shoot an aoe fire attack. Getting hit with two of an element in a row is just autodeath. Undersized (or just plain dead) parties means less targets to cycle for the ice, which leads to death quickly. It's why T9 may be impossible to solo? Maybe it can be bursted now, idk

Oh yeah those seemed to be autodeath. The meteors were doing like 20-30k damage or something too though, which is way more HP than you have at level 50 so I was assume it was like 1/3 of max HP or something like that.

oh no that was just doing the mechanic wrong

if meteors are too close they EXPLODE, doing wipe damage. except wipe damage in ARR aint what it used to be

they sure aren't! you need the golems to walk near them to eat them. if one one eats too many, they get invincible. if they don't all get eaten, wipe.

when you do it synced its always three, idk about unsyncing. ARR fights get really weird when you burst them down that fast

i could see it doing something dumb like 6 by trying to combine multiple golem phases - actually wait theres only one golem phase iirc so i dunno

I guess taking off the helmet helps, but before that was pretty annoying.

That said, all the other guys in the Job questlines were so plain that Giott is probably the only one with a lasting impression at least?

Monk time to 80. I can't for the life of me figure out the the point of Anatman and Six-sided star. First time I'm actually stumped. Help.

Anatman is great for boss phase transitions so you can keep greased lightning up with nothing to hit

Good news! The Anatman opener is still technically optimal for MNK, but it's such a minor gain that you can safely ignore it unless you're going for rank 1 on a fight or something like that.

Regarding Six Sided Star, as I understand it (I haven't played MNK since I got it to 80 a few months ago) it's best used when mechanics force you to disconnect from the boss for 2 GCDs or more. Use SSS as your last action before breaking away, and not only is it your highest potency available but it refreshes your Greased Lighting stacks. Wow!

Yeah, they're both situational but nice tools to have. They aren't meant to be part of your core rotation at all the way, say, RDM's Scorch is at 80.

Reprise is the weird one for RDM

Reprise is a nice situational skill for RDM. You certainly aren't using it every time you close in for your melee combo but it's good to get into the habit of using it to spend excess mana if you had 85+ for both immediately after you use Corps-a-corps, in a scenario where you know you aren't going to be wanting to go back into melee range as soon as you would be if you hadn't used it. It doesn't hurt that it's 300 potency for only 5 mana too so it's very cost efficient. RDM has enough inherent RNG to it that it's hard to have the same rotation cycling over and over so you have to adapt on the fly.

I'm sure that's totally the last we've seen of Ran'jit! I'm not sure what Solus's angle is here (besides obviiously not actually being our best friend). He does, however, claim that the ascians were the inhabitants of the original world that split into the 13 that we know about, and the Zodiark and Hydaelyn are primals. Then back in the Crystarium the sin eaters attack Lakeland. Apparently if you're turned by one of these things you have like a 33% chance each of becoming a gargoyle, diremite, or polar bear, You'd think there'd be more variety...!

Then Vauthry shows up in a zeppelin talking about how we're the real villains, because he's definitely Queen Brahne. Looking forward to Ran'jit shooting him down from the sky after revealing his true motives or something!

Oh also there was a Garlemald cutscene with Estinian and Gaius, and then Ascian?Zenos lurking in the shadows talking about how he needs to find his best friend
