Having been persona non grata for well over a year and having reformed myself, no I don't agree with that. I would ban myself for my behavior for a period of time. The fact that I wasn't speaks volumes as to what is tolerated on the discord.

At least you are possible to have a conversation with, because i have zero interest in stuff you troll the nerdlords with like Warcrap 3 and mathematics.

But, anywho. This has nothing to do with me. This has to do with someone who is apologizing for what he feels he has done wrong, asking for at least a temporary allowance onto your server just for the contest, and is willing to accept his ban if he does something wrong during the temporary allowance.

That is the least he is asking for. He isn't asking for understanding, forgiveness, and a total unban right now. He is asking for the benefit of the doubt of a chance.

I 100% can buy that the majority of people might not want him there. I have a VERY hard time seriously believing that the "overwhelming" majority of people agree that he should be banned.

there's a difference between a majority (50-60%) and an overwhelming majority (90%). there's a huge difference from saying 'I wouldn't want him here' and thinking that he needs to be banned. I'm allergic to chocolate, but I wouldn't ban people from bringing it to a family gathering. I would just... not eat the chocolate. and let everyone decide for themselves whether they should eat it or not.

heck, even though I know eating chocolate will make me sick, every so often I get this nostalgic feeling from when I was still able to eat it, and I have a little bit because I miss the taste. and sure, I always get sick afterwards. but that's my decision. I don't want anyone making it illegal to eat chocolate.

still, it doesn't really matter what I say. there's no reason you guys need to impress me or justify your logic to me. and there's very little reason why any of the people who have the authority to decide on his ban would ever listen to me. they already have way more social pressure to listen to the people who are saying to ban him.

but this is a public forum and I am going to post my thoughts on the situation.

I stand by my hypothesis. anyone who disagrees, and who cares to prove me wrong, is very easily in a position to test it. simply make an anonymous poll on the discord, wait until it gets a respectable number of votes, and see how many people vote that ulti should be banned.

no vague language, no selective sampling.

it doesn't really matter if every person on the discord thinks this when it's the actives that are relevant, the people who, in principle, have dealt with his shit there. if you want to get into the details of the experiment, an anonymous survey kept up for a while would be poor data since it would also sample plenty of people who aren't around much and wouldn't really care. you could make it unanonymous and filter out inactives but that's a pretty poor practice, and you could only have it open for a short time so it's likely only people who are around a lot would see it, which is effectively what was done. it wasn't anonymous, but what b8er would refrain from saying that they want him because of social pressure? we're the most stubborn bastards around

I believe making the results anonymous and leaving it open for 24-48 hours would have an impact. once again, it is very easy for anyone to prove me wrong if they wish to test this. just make the poll anonymous and see the results.

Maybe if there wasn't quite so much pandering to the people who basically live on the Discord more people would be encouraged to go there more often.

Like the fact that a guy can be banned because a very small but very obsessive portion of the userbase unanimously dislikes him definitely discourages me from participating in things other than occasional fringe side rooms, I'll say that much.

I would be in support of having Ulti unbanned from Discord, or at least have his posting access limited to the contest channel if Steiner doesn't want to give him full access to Discord (minus the mod-only channels).

Also people posted how they want to see posts from Ulti regarding the contest but said to see it from the wiki or log into an alt to see it or something. Obviously the user provides content that people are interested in seeing.
