Say what you will about our current justice system (it's not good!) but "make criminals insane and let them out the next day" doesn't seem like a good idea for fixing it.

Wouldn't "living" 1000 years in a short time cause issues with the senses?
I'd think one would pull a Kars from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and cease thinking since they'd have a lack of stimuli or something?
If that's the case it's essentially death. Interesting technology though. Wonder where it will go.

If you do something to get a 1,000 year sentence you should just be executed anyway.

Will they actually be doing anything in that time or just sitting there?

If they made it so that you could learn learn several lifetimes of knowledge in eight hours this could be very beneficial tbh.

I think the idea is you go on a 1,000 year long nightmare bad trip as punishment for copying a tape from the video store

So

One of the reasons of prison is to keep people away from society for a length of time so we don't have to deal with them

This is fucking stupid.
1. It was basically an opinion piece with one person saying "Well gee, one day this might happen." with no science given behind if such a thing would even be possible.
2. Hopefully a more developed society would work toward rehabilitation, rather than punishment. Making someone think they were in a room for 1000 years is gonna make them somehow be good moving forward? They were apparently high for those 1000 years, too, so likely havent been clear-headed enough to "think about what they did"

It's like someone in the 1700s discussing the types of horses we might have bred for transportation by today.

Well maybe after 1,000 years they will lack the motivations they previously had and certainly won't want to do it again, right?

Yeah by leaving them so mentally scarred they wouldn't be able to do anything.

Only in fucking America would a technology like this be used to think "gee how can we make prisoners' sentences even worse?"
