Aside from preboarding people (disabled, children, etc), the boarding group usually goes: Highest loyalty status, high loyalty and first class, business, economy, then the bottom of the barrel basic economy.

It's some pretty naked classism, but also seems like it probably makes the process easier, assuming those first-boarding groups are sitting closer to the front.

i just hate when they're doing the first group and EVERYONE lines up and crowds the whole area, and they're all the basic economy people. you have like 20 minutes before they get to you so sit your ass down

they should load it from the back to front and leave front to back

it's so damn cramped that walking down the aisle is a bitch when its loaded

I found out a few months ago the real reason why they do it front (most expensive seats) to back (least expensive) - it's so that people who paid more have a better guarantee of getting space for their luggage in an overhead without having to check it underneath at the gate.

Although some companies do board from back to front or in a random order, so not all hope is lost.
