from a laissez faire standpoint protectionism is economically suboptimal, but there are indeed domestic tradeoffs, the balance with benefits of which are not always proportional or uniform for lack of better words

never mind that "free trade" in the (geo)political context seldom refers to literal free trade, but complex legal agreements, often drafted with significant input by the multinationals that stand to benefit

I'm not saying the Immigration Services thing is or isn't still white supremacist; I don't know. But simply having bad origins doesn't mean it's still bad. The guy who laid much of the groundwork for modern LGBTQ theory also argued for pedophilia. We can take the good and filter out the bad.

They are using so many different criteria to ignore as many people as possible to downplay the unemployment rate, using things like, "must be actively looking for a job within the past 3 months" or so. You can't go up to a company's doorstep, hand in your resum with a firm handshake to get a job nowadays (I admit, I did this by being like ants on sugar, didn't last that long at the job). What are you talking about?

It's not fake news, statistics downplay the unemployment rate like crazy. We literally have a movie on Netflix, a documentary about bringing manufacturing back to the US, "American Factory". Part of what put Trump in office is because of people wanting a solution for the loss jobs in manufacturing.

Tell me, how is he wrong? How have wages NOT stagnated? How has moving operations overseas to China NOT stolen jobs from the US?

Do note, I study some of this, investing, as a hobby and I've come to learn that service is not infinite. There's only so many dollars available to push around and easier processes will absorb the money from more expensive processes. For instance, Amazon has stolen a metric ton of money (or rather money has been transferred to Amazon) from traditional outlets congregates like malls. In the future, smart contracts are going to absorb a ton of jobs, like the trust assurance industry where you need to transfer assets of high value.

The government uses multiple measurements of unemployment or labor underutilization. The most frequently cited, the official number, is U-3 which measures the unemployed as a percent of the labor force. That statistic was measured the exact same way in 1994 as it is today, and shows lower unemployment.

If for whatever reason you don't like that measurement there is U-6 which counts underemployment as unemployment. That rate is also lower today, there is literally no measurement of unemployment that shows a higher number than in 1994. He was dead wrong on free trade.

I would not waste any time arguing online or investing until you have a better understanding of economics.
