I managed to get through it but it took like an hour of retrying

The straightforward combat mechanics arent great (I shot a lot of bullets into cover instinctively expecting the game to understand im in cover and have him pop out of it) but theyre not horrible and the difficulty actually made a pretty tense fight. I enjoyed it.

I never had an issue with the combat tbh

I went through a ton of blood bags and ate a lot of bugs but that's kojima, baby

My favorite thing about the combat sections is when stealth actually works and I just come up behind them b and blow them all away

there's definitely stealth later on in the game

also the mules camps can be stealthy if you do them right

if you ever need to get something from a mule camp just go in with no cargo (you can still carry weapons)

they literally will not bother you because you have nothing they want

if you pick something up they'll get pissed tho

I was able to stealth kill a couple soldiers in the WW2 fight

any fights against mules/terrorists are pretty easy because you can just bola gun them all

that Higgs fight on the beach was really fun. I loved just bashing him with garbage cargo.

and then it became Punch-Out for a bit and it was brutal

and then Fragile showed up and her lines were pretty lame

oh but then she said I brought you a metaphor and that was pretty good

I think I laughed the hardest as I was barreling down some hill with my moms corpse on my back wobbling around and then a somber sounding song started to play. The incongruity of the slapstick action and the serious tone of the music was very funny.

The reveal that his name is actually Sam Strand was also very funny because it was too early for me to be at all invested in his identity as Sam Bridges. It just came across as goofy.

Early on there were a bunch of moments like that that Kojima was treating seriously, but they looked absurd or involved silly things like a guy being named Die-Hardman.

As the game went on that sort of stufff became less funny because I was getting more engaged with the story l, so I had started to treat this absurd stuff as seriously as Kojima does.

and then someone had to go and say princess beach and I broke again

Death Stranding is definitely better than MGS5.

I dunno, nothing will ever beat the moment in MGSV where I realized I was hearing She Blinded Me With Science coming from a camp and then took out a bunch of dudes to steal their copy of the song. Also guest starring child soldiers is extremely funny.

I think MGSVs gameplay is better (and just generally one of the most fun modern action games), but I may prefer the overall experience of DS. I still have a bit more before Im done, well see if it sticks the landing better than MGS. It kind of has to, right?
