I haven't watched the anime adaptation of game 3 yet and I'm a little afraid to because the ONE character in the series that I have a voice in my head for (well actually I had two but Pearl was already in the anime and it wasn't that strong for her anyway) is Luke Atmey and I'm afraid the anime will shatter it.

The best way I can describe it is Dick Dastardly using Peter Griffin's rich/fancy accent.

No.

It's still a decent game and you'll have fun playing it. It says more about the series being so good than AA4 being bad.

And Apollo is the best protagonist in the series imo.

Apollo is legitimately my favorite character in fiction.

AA4 probably isn't quite as bad as its reputation, just because at the time it was like, series-ruining, but now that it in fact did not successfully ruin the series, now it's like a weird experimental chapter in the franchise so you'll probably see it differently. As others have said though, skipping it is strictly non-optional, its story is a prerequisite for AA5 and AA6.

Yeah, Apollo is a great character. I like him a lot even in AA4. The game is worth playing for the first case and the last case, regardless of whether you think they're good or not.

I would recommend AA4 -> E1 -> E2 (both Edgeworth games are 100% optional; though if you play E1, I would HIGHLY suggest playing E2) -> AA5 -> AA6

I know I'm in the extreme minority in that I like 4-2 a lot. Characters and plodding investigation segments and all! 4-3 is fucking awful though. If I thought long enough about it I'd probably rank it as my least favorite case, but who wants to think long enough about 4-3?

4-3 is easily my least favorite case in the series and saying that when 2-3 exists means you know somebody fucked up.

I also really like 4-2, though. Involves my two favorite minor characters in the series.

You can play the Edgeworth games before or after. I don't think it particularly matters. They're both set a short while after the end of the 3rd game. There are some very minor callbacks (or call forwards in this case, I guess) to AA4, but nothing you'd care if you missed.

Agreed. A lot of the great franchises had first entries that aged horribly.

The Gen I Pokmon games were buggy as hell, and horribly unbalanced. Sonic the Hedgehog was certainly passable, but nowhere near on the level of 2 or 3&K. And so on.
