I've never played a Professor Layton game. How much of it is Layton vs AA?

- Man, this gravely roast situation just makes me want to know what the mystery was in Japanese. But seriously, if Morgan Fey wrote gravely roast the master in the fires of Hades to a nine-year-old, the results are her own fault.
- So Pearl didnt channel Dahlia and the letter was already opened, which means Maya did it. Okay.
- You know, thinking about it, how did people channel spirits before photographs were a thing? If you need a picture and all. This is like questioning how Elekid could exist before power outlets.
- None of this explains yet why ghost Dahlia killed Misty Fey, but well see.

I played all 6 games consecutively. The burnout came when I tried to play the first Edgeworth game. It's pretty bad, tbh.

Though I hear the 2nd one is fantastic.

The first Edgeworth game is fine, although it's either 2nd or 3rd from the bottom overall.

I wouldn't really say they're bad, more that they're just not quite as good as most other games in the series. And from what I can tell, I'm in the minority there on the second Edgeworth game.

Really, the only Ace Attorney game I'd straight up call bad is Apollo Justice

Correct. They're usually abbreviated as AAI, I, or E, in my experience. AA1-6 are just the main games.

aa4's damage is faaaar worse than e1's blandness. also e1 might have the single best soundtrack of them all!

I only played two cases though. They were soooooo bland. That said, I feel like that being the 7th game I played consecutively made me lower my tolerance for bland sequences. I''m going to try again eventually, if only because I hear AAI1 is necessary to get AAI2's plot.

well you should really have played the edgeworth games in release order (i.e. before aa5) - imagine that would have helped a lot with burnout.

e1-1 and e1-2 are a pretty rough 1-2 punch to get into that franchise. i like e1-3 but it's also not really well-regarded. it's not perfect, but gets real good after.

I actually think I prefer AAI to JFA

2-4 is, of course, better than anything in the former, but the first three cases are so mediocre (I know most people think that 2-2 is okay, but I dont like it very much).

E1-3 is gonna be hit or miss for me in replay. I remember liking some things about it but not others.

Anagram, don't read (although it's actually not UBER spoilerish).
I hated the Amanos but liked the atmosphere and the introduction to Lang and Shi-na.

Just in case it isn't clear by the way, AAI1 isn't great, but AAI2 kicks ass, nobody dislikes that game and it's generally considered to be one of the better non-trilogy games

Actually I think AA4 and AAI1 are probably the only really maligned games in the series? It seemed like a big deal at the time though, because they were released back-to-back, and then AAI2 was japan-only, so the series was just kind of crap for the 6 years in between us getting AA3 and AA5 coming out

I coupdn't even finish AAI2. The cases were so long and winded and I totally lost interest.

Hopefully I can muster through it this time.

The first one is fine, but the second one is one of the better games in the series.

They're totally skippable though if you'd rather just come back to them later. They're pretty self-contained.

I think every single AA game is worth playing to some extent, even the meh ones have their high moments and they don't take that long to play anyway, there's a limited amount of these games so you might as well enjoy all of them I think

And AAI1 is worth playing through to get to AAI2 imo

Taking a break isn't a bad idea though
