Can't complain about any of those! Surprised AGAIN at no Mob, but considering my noms I'm obviously still very pleased. Don't sleep on the Wasteful Days OP people. And yes, also surprised at no Fire Force, but even more surprised it didn't make my votes! When I first saw it I though it would be my +8.

Winner Kaguya-Sama: Love is War

Kaguya did the thing where it soaked up so many votes that the rest of the field was left scrambling to pick up the scraps. Last year we had a nice back and forth between Hinamatsuri and Asobi Asobase, no competition this year. Kaguya-Sama was the show that made you guys laugh/smile the most this year, mostly on the strength of its characters. Just about everyone had a handful of scenes where they got to shine.

Hitoribocchi is the actual best comedy of the year. Its about a girl with social anxiety trying her best to befriend everyone in her class at her new school so her best friend will be her friend again. Its funny, feel-good and adorable and everyone should watch it.

Winner: Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2

In the end Season 3 Part 2 did also win by a decent enough margin, but the other shows placing did better. In most years dramas are the stronger category, theyve historically been the best indicator as to what will win AOTY (Though Soma woulda qualified for Comedy and I dont think it would have won that category had it been around).

Attack on Titan just delivered on all fronts. It provided us with a strong story arc, raised the stakes and just kept pumping up that tension. We got some great inspiring speeches, big WHAM moments and a setup for what looks to be a thrilling conclusion. Now can it do enough to win the biggest prize?

Meanwhile Promised Neverland picks up a nice runner up position, I was very excited for it heading into the year, but I didnt think itd have such a nice impact from the get go. It, Dr Stone and Demon Slayer were the big new drama releases from Jump this year and My Hero Academia continued its strong run, so good showing! Astra: Lost in Space also was able to nab another spot in in this series, its been quietly performing very well which just makes me more curious to check it out down the line.

Hey mannnn I watched and liked Wasteful Days.

I heard mediocre to bad things about the adaptation of Wasteful Days but just based off the manga I could see it being near the top of comedy lists for the year

it was still extremely good but nobody cared

i watched it with a friend and damn almost all of the last 6 eps were like 9/10

also i'm sad there aren't even raws for the hulaing/flying babies spinoff this season

I could see the manga being better, especially if they spread out the love instead of focusing on baka so much. What a bad character. Ended up dropping because of her despite liking the other characters.

in the like anime reddit thing the panel who do the best OPs of the year, from what I've seen, hold the public voting in very high contempt a lot of the times because the public largely votes only based on the song and the panel judges it based on all aspects (usually).

And I would agree with them! I don't really understand how you can be voting for an OP and just pick what song you like best. The visuals are an enormous part of the opening. If you just wanted to vote on song it would just be a whole separate category for "anime song of the year", which would include inserts and the like.

Gonna wrap shit up tonight, only 3 awards left anyway.

Ok, so maybe I should take a look at Hitori Bocchi if shes gonna be beating out Nezuko, Emma, and ladies from other seemingly well regarded shows like Demon Girl Next Door or Carole & Tuesday. Heck if anything I thought the dark horse candidate might have been from Dumbbell.

But the real reason might just be down to Kaguya-samas two main female characters taking up a loooot of ballot spots. It was a close race and this time the main girl won out, not always a guarantee, Megumin proved to be a lot more popular than Aqua and I remember pushing Reina hard over Kumiko. Heck Tensai>Nanana (what nice short n sweet show)

Chika heading into this showdown had spotlight stealing sequences, the ED, the rap, mentoring Miyuki and so on. Shes way louder, but not obnoxious brings more energy to the table and has a nice outgoing personality.
Kaguya on the other hand is the opposite, a stone cold icy glare is what youll get. Shes intelligent, but at times much too nave which makes for great moments whenever shes flustered. Which again, behind that cold exterior, the Kaguya you get is one hell of a cute personality. Her struggle to keep up the faade is what makes the show so much fun, because the whole point is for Miyuki and Kaguya to expose each other.
