Yes, got spanked pretty often - and hard too. Usually 2~3 as a punishment, but really hard... often bruised.

I was scared of my dad for the longest time because of it, it wasn't until I was like 20 that we finally got a chill normal relationship.

What about your dad? Does he deny it as well? Does he tell her she's wrong? Does he just sit silently, avoiding the conversation entirely? Or is he dead and it's his absence that allows her to deny what happened and live in her own little world?

Yes. Didn't get them frequently, considering my worst behaviors were in my teens. But I wasn't spared as a kid

My exstepdad put matches out on my arm as punishment for burning a single blade of grass with a lighter.

My mom spanked me a few times, but nothing traumatic.

My biological father spanked me with a ping pong paddle when I was like 8 years old. I remember it broke in half one time and I laughed so hard.

Other than that.....pretty normal childhood.

Most punishments came in the form of grounding me to my room. And no, I wasn't one of those kids where their bedroom was their sanctuary. No TV. No music. No video games. Just me staring at the ceiling.

Yes. My siblings and I all got spankings as punishment. I got them pretty regular. My siblings, not so much. But I also did the worst stuff and had a tendency to not stop until I got my ass whooped with the belt. Spankings would result in painful welts, but never bruises. It was never something like a broom handle. Wooden spoons when we were little. Open palms as we got bigger. Then belts before the spankings stopped around the age of 12 or 13.

Our father was not allowed to punish us because he would take it too far. He would swing the belt too hard and too many times. So mother simply didn't allow him to do it. Even with punishments like grounding. When a week was what the misbehaviour warranted he would want a month. So mother dealt with nearly all of the punishment in our house.

My dad never laid a hand on me or my sister.

He used to get his ass whipped so hard he said he would wear extra pairs of underwear to soften the blows from the belt. He said he didn't want to do that to his kids, ever.

He made us write "I will not _______________" hundreds of times or took my video games away for a duration of time depending on the offense, but he was the kind of parent I respected so much that I never really wanted to disappoint him. Same with my mom, whose brothers received the same punishment as my dad.

Nah, my dad is alive and cool - I loves ma dad. It incidentally has never come up in group conversation since I don't think my family has EVER had a group conversation before. I don't talk about it with dad since he's cool now, and it only comes up with mom when we're talking about spanking other people's kids like when there's a bratty kid on TV or radio and the conversation goes that way

Once in a blue moon when my mother was super angry she'd hit me but that was very rare.

I turned out to be a fine adult. The only real effect i feel like spanking would have had on me is NOT trusting my parents.

I think a lot of people have the wrong idea as to what it's like. Like they imagine some drunk father just pummeling the kid and leaving him bloodied and bruised simply for talking back. That's not really the case, least with me. With me it was much more... discipline-related. Like, it only happened when I stepped out of line and blatantly disobeyed my parents and was honestly more about ensuring I learned the lesson than punishment.

I'm not going to say that my parents were right or wrong for doing that. However I see a lot of kids today who so blatantly disobey or openly ignore their parents and their parents are either completely apathetic to it or outright afraid of their own kids. As a result the child has no respect not just for them but for anyone in general and I really wish their parents would put them over the knee just so they could learn discipline and respect.

I agree. I can see that. It's weird. Nobody wants to spank their children anymore. Yet, so many kids are just horrible. And probably need a spanking. But I'm not their parents and will mot likely never have anything to do with the kid. So, I can't really care much...
