Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said Thursday that there was no chance that President Donald Trump would be removed from office in any impeachment trial and that it wouldnt surprise him if some Democrats split from their party and voted in the presidents favor. The case is so darn weak coming from the House, McConnell said in an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News on Thursday night, as the House Judiciary Committee continued to debate articles of impeachment. We know how it's going to end. There's no chance the president's going to be removed from office.

While the Democratic-controlled House is likely to vote to impeach the president, it is up to the Senate to conduct a trial and vote to actually remove Trump from office. The Senate requires a two-thirds majority to convict, or 67 votes. The GOP holds a 53-47 advantage, but that would still require 20 Republicans to break from the president, assuming that every Democrat votes to convict Trump though, as McConnell suggested, that assumption is not a given.

I don't live in Kentucky

McConnell said during an interview on Fox News on Thursday night that everything I do during this, Im coordinating with the White House counsel. There will be no difference between the presidents position and our position as to how to handle this to the extent that we can.

He's got protection.

I think it's very silly to treat the president as some sort of distraction. You vote out McConnell but not Trump and the next Senate Republican in line will behave no differently.

Majority of the country can't do anything about Mitch. It only people from his state.

Next time I'm up for jury duty I'm telling the judge that I'm working with the defense and there's no chance there will be a guilty vote as long as I'm on the jury.

Then you vote blue and cut his power by giving the Democrats the senate. It doesn't matter who wins the presidency next. nothing is going to change unless we get rid of him or cut his power

If a juror proudly announced they would never hand a guilty verdict to a defendant before the trail even started they'd be ejected & possibly fined

And if the prosecutors in charge of the case were exhibiting obvious personal vendettas against the defendant, it'd be thrown out long before it ever saw a jury. Political theater isn't the same thing as a jury trial.

We dont need to remove ANY president from office without blatantly disrespect for the law. I dont care who the president is. We dont need to set a precedent of impeaching based of partisanship

Hes not wrong, impeachment would be pure theater at this point, but Dems are good at that so theyre going along with it

It's funny that McTurtle said his stance was identical to the Presidents. Moscow Mitch doesn't want any witnesses in the trial, whereas Trump wants lots of them. And the spineless Republicans will bend over backwards, because it's what Trump wants.
