Would you consider pandering to conservative straight white males a kind of identity politics?

Is it considered identity politics or something else?

It can be. Identity politics is always a form of pandering, pretty much by definition. We all know how that sort of thing works.

But there are other ways to pander. Case in point: in this particular moment in American politics, deliberate attempts to avoid playing identity politics are often seen as pandering to straight white males. It's literally the opposite of identity politics, but pandering nonetheless.

You could argue that making deliberate attempts to avoid identity politics is more so appealing to the people who arent being focussed on with identity politics (ie. white men), as basically an excuse to flaunt about how some kind of minority is holding them back, essentially acting as another kind of identity politics, just like being straightforward about it. In the past we basically just called it appealing to demographics this isnt new

Nobody is really trying to avoid identity politics in this day and age, its just who is being targeted.

Most politics are identity politics. Definitely all of the politics discussed on gamefaqs.

Yes but its the only kind that is acceptable for some strange reason.

It's only acceptable for the GOP because they need the white male majority to stay in power.

rather than point out basic human nature(pandering), I just point out the hypocrisy of those who lack the self awareness to realize they're also talking about themselves. too many people try to find false differences in order to feel like they're "better," and completely ignoring the similarities.

but that's what self interest is. it doesn't care if it's a hypocrite as long as it gets what it wants. it sets a bad precedent when it's embedded into the roots of a culture.

it's funny how when you point out similarities, the go-to response is "whataboutism!"

Yeah, sure.

If the product or service, especially a law or policy, is designed to target a particular demographic, then it is playing identity politics. This is true whether it is aimed at white people, black people, straight orientations or queer, and so on.

Most politics is identity politics. The only form of identity politics I have an issue with though, is if it's used to silence criticism
