My sister is a really strong vegan, and she has recently needed to start taking some heavy supplements. She has been a vegan for... 6 years or so. Only now she is taking a lot of supplements due to the time she has been a vegan. She has actually started eating chicken on rare occasions as well in the past few months due to needing more protein.

Your sister is not a vegan. You also have no idea what you're talking about.

Your argument, as usual, is 100% emotional. I go for facts, not emotion. Its a fact that human beings were not vegan until they had the privilege of having a choice. They ate to survive, and whether you choose to acknowledge this commonly known fact, veganism is a man made concept of rejecting certain foods.

I wouldn't go that far TC. Try eliminating all the juices, sodas, junk snacks, and fast food first. Basically, get rid of the stuff that isn't good for you, but limit yourself at first. For example you drink 4 sodas a day. At first bring it down to 3 or 2 for a week, and then continue to lessen it until you don't want it any more or found a healthier replacement.

Good luck!

Depends on the meat tbh. Red meat ain't doing your body any favors. It especially doesn't do your colon any good. And even the superior pescatarian diet has its downsides given the mercury content in most fish.

meh, there's nothing wrong with red meat when eaten in moderation. but leaner meats like chicken and turkey are definitely better for your health overall.

That's the thing though. Red meats are almost always eaten in excess. That goes for most foods though I suppose. Trips me out how people do keto and have like an 8oz steak or other cut of red like every day and think that's okay for their body.

This is false. Red meat is perfectly fine. Theres zero hard evidence that it is bad for you, countless scientists have even retracted their previous diagnoses regarding this I might add. Quit blaming the meat for the negatives that are related to what people are cooking it in. Stop cooking your meat in those vegetable oils.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/30/health/red-meat-heart-cancer.html

Yeah I can't do any NYT articles. Any other sources or links to the references they use? All the academic journals I've seen thus far states that it does increase risks of colon cancer and having had colon cancer myself I find it hard to believe it being perfectly healthy when my doctor told me to avoid that and other foods with high saturated fat content.

Did any of those journals you read factor in the other foods that Americans also typically eat in excess that are loaded with carbs and sugars and or have been cooked in vegetable oils? Ask yourself this question.

Also throwing this in for good measure, if the poorly conducted studies that are negative towards red meat are to be believed, the people of Hong Kong should be dropping dead like flies. Hong Kong is up there in the world for eating way more meat than just about any other place, and yet, their lifespans exceed that of Americans.

Yes they did. I've read reports published in both the US and UK if that makes a difference to you. Again, there's no going around the fact that red meats are high in saturated fat. Also, iirc there was a surprising increase in young adults with colorectal cancer in China which of course was attributed to the average diet. Additionally a quick Google search shows life expectancy in China is no greater than the US.

Anyways, if you're trying to be healthy then there are still other diets I would consider. Cutting fish and other white meats makes an insignificant difference and then you have to stay on top of taking necessary supplements. If it's for the environment/ethics then go for it yeah. Vegan food is delicious despite what others believe. It's not like you'll be eating leaves for the rest of your life

you absolutely don't need dietary saturated fat. the only fats your body can't make on their own as needed are omega 3's and omega 6's, which are polyunsaturated fats

the more saturated fat you have, the higher your risk of heart disease. the inverse is true for polyunsaturated fats

next you'll say dietary cholesterol is needed as well

these are tired and incorrect talking points

I don't think I ever implied China consisted of solely Hong Kong. Please elaborate on what you mean by that and where it was interpreted from in my post.

Also I'd seldom call saturated fat good unless ignoring the impact it makes on both your cholesterol and colon. Just because your body needs fats, it doesn't mean they must be saturated/trans fats. It's recommended to that your fat intake consist mostly of Unsaturated fats since you're likely to consume dairy and other byproducts with a high content of saturated fats.

It's disingenuous to say red meat is good because we need to consume fats since you can get fats elsewhere with a much lower intake. Much like how our bodies need sugar, carbohydrates, sodium, etc that doesn't inherently make foods rich in those contents good because you're likely inadvertently consuming them or again, can eat something with a healthier content.

This is a bullshit statement. The people of Hong Kong and plenty of other heavy red meat eating parts of the world debunks this bogus claim that was brought to you by the same groups that said eggs were unhealthy, avocado and olive fat is bad for you, and marijuana is more dangerous than every other drug. Make no mistake about it, it is no coincidence that the era of rescinding health and heart problems in the United States increased when Americans started binging into an increase of excessive amounts of vegetable oils, carb + starch filling foods, and of course sugar.

You are arguing against literal facts.

Saturated fat is one of the worst things you can eat while unsaturated fat is healthy for you. BTW avocado and olive oil is basically almost entirely unsaturated fat.

Its making your body intake an unnatural diet.

It literally isnt.

It literally is. Like I said, if you have to take vitamins to balance your diet, that means your diet is not sufficient. Humans are omnivorous by nature. Veganism is a modern concept.

Many if not most people take vitamins to supplement deficiencies. Appealing to nature is a dumb tactic. Humans are not obligate omnivores. Stick to Trump slurping

Saturated fat is good. Saturated fat is good. Monounsaturated fat, which are the fat avocados and olives have the most of, are also good. I am arguing against bad nutrition information that happens to be commonly accepted as and then shoved in the mainstream as facts and as healthy. It wasnt that long ago when these same talking heads parroted that eggs were bad for you because of the cholesterol content. It wasnt that long ago when these same talking heads parroted that avocados and olives were bad for you because they were high in fat. The so called claims that saturated fat is bad for you doesnt have strong hard evidence that backs it up.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2824152/

Now look for the studies on colorectal cancer and red meats/saturated fats. Listen guy, I'm not gonna say there are 0 benefits to consuming fats, but I'm also not going to blatantly disregard the inherent disadvantages that come with saturated fats. Main reason being my brush with cancer and the number one thing I've been advised to do is avoid saturated fats, specifically by cutting red meat out of my diet in favor of unsaturated fats.

This study reeks of you desperately searching for evidence to support the narrative you're trying to build (which it does not do) rather than looking for evidence and coming to the conclusion based on it.

Here is a far more balanced take on it aggregating multiple studies including yours as well as the the ones for unsaturated fats.

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321655.php

It's pretty clear. Saturated fat has no correlation as a best case scenario, and high cholesterol, obesity, heart disease, stroke, etc as a worst case and unsaturated fat reduces those things.

This is the same with every other vitamin your body needs. Where do you think the animal you're eating gets it from? From being fed plants and supplements all day. Cows and chickens are high in protein because they eat plants and pills all day. Animals are just a middle man and filter out more vitamins, so you're actually getting less than if you were to just go straight to the source and eat plants and take supplements. The whole 10% energy loss food chain you were supposed to learn in high school biology.
