Been eyeballing it for a while. Is it a standard turn based RPG where you go from town to town, exploring dungeons and whatnot? I've played VIII on PS2 back in the day and really liked it.

Yeah super standard JRPG. Pretty enjoyable though with cool/fun characters.

Pretty enjoyable. It's not reinventing the JRPG wheel or anything, but what it does is good, whimsical fun across the board. The soundtrack is a bit hit or miss, though.

It's a Dragon Quest game. They don't re-invent the wheel so much as they change the rims and the tread patterns.

With Dragon Quest it's safe to say it's a classic jRPG done fairly well. Apparently XI is one of the better ones.

Oh shit it comes out in a little over a month

I've been thinking about it, I've never played a DQ game but I love traditional turn-based RPGs so I will probably pick it up. Been hearing you don't need to know much story-wise from previous games, other than missing a few easter eggs or minor references or what have you.

I'm not saying that part to put DQ11 down. On the contrary, when a series can provide a reliable experience each time it's at bat, that creates a lot of comfort for fans. And since DQ11 is similarly good to DQ8, TC should be able to enjoy things pretty well.

should get it on pc, it'll probably have severe framerate issues on switch, like every other multi-plat game that gets ported over to it

Basically you are hanging out with your bros and having a good time. It's fun, it's got loads of charm and frankly just a rousing good time. It's a great game. Second best Dragon Quest, V is still king.

Great old school turn based gameplay. Average cast. Nowhere as good as DQ8.

My problem with it is the story and the re-use of locations in lieu of having actual new places to go to. Which a lot of games do but it's positively criminal in this game. You traverse the same locations with about a 5% change in them due to plot stuff 3 times. 3 times! 4 times if you include the optional areas. Which are just the same areas again.
Everything is great up until the plot takes a massive left turn into time travel nonsense for Act 3 which then proceeds to undo and remove all the character development that had taken place in Act 2. It removes all that good stuff and replaces it with absolutely nothing in return.

@SH_expert44 the new content is that they give you the option on the switch to play the game in 2D mode so everything becomes like a classic DQ game like dragon quest 4 on the DS

also it will apparently come with mini episodes starring the party members in there own little adventures that will probably be DLC on the ps4 eventually but will come with the switch by default
