10 y/o Bryce Lindley was left in tears after he was told he is charged with ASSAULT by the family of a white child who was hit in the head during a game of DODGEBALL in Michigan!!

He was playing dodgeball at Ruth Eriksson Elementary on April when he hit his classmate in the face with the ball

The child sustained a concussion and bryce's mother, Cameishi never thought her son was charged with aggravated assault

But on July 24th, they got a call from Wayne County Juvenile Court about it and said the mother charged their son because her son has a medical condition

The mother, who doesn't want to be identified, accused Bryce of intentionally throwing the ball at her son's face and said "He sustained facial issue damage to his face. He had a black eye and a bruised nose"

Bryce was suspended for one day and his mother believed that was punishment enough and said "This is a kid who was playing on the playground with his friends"

But the other mother said it wasn't the first time her son was injured and said her son is often targeted. She says "My son was hit twice in the face with a ball previously due to this. The child apologized to my son and my son said "mom, it's okay we're still going to be friends"

Cameishi said she was "unaware" of any other incidents and also questioned why the boy was allowed to play dodgeball if he had a medical condition so severe

A pre-trial is scheduled for August 1st in juvenile court

Cameishi shared a gofundme page to help pay for legal fees of up to 4000 and has so far amassed 11,000

His story got attention from several activists stating he was "racially targeted"

Tariq Nasheed said "Some 10 year olds were playing dodgeball on the playground at school. A White kid got hit with the ball. Then they charged the 10 y/o black child with assault. This is why we should not prioritize any of these border issues while our kids are racially targeted".

Another says "There is a 10 y/o black boy, Bryce, in America who has been hit with an aggravated assault charge via Dodgeball. All because the white boy's mother, who knew about his illness, didn't specify to the school that her child should not be involved with that type of sport"

D.L Hughley also shared the story and said "RIDICULOUS!! These are KIDS BEING KIDS!! They charged a child?? If the kid has a medical condition WHY IS HE PARTICIPATING IN SOMETHING WHERE HE CAN GET HURT??"

Do you think this is a pointless charge?

Not necessarily that but defaulting to racism when ever theres an incident involving two opposite races is kind of sad. Like theres many different reasons this could have happened such as repeated bullying or possibly over-protective mothers or perhaps the medical condition is actually severe. Lastly of the reasons I could brainstorm is that we have a law system that allows anyone at anytime to sue. But the kid got a damn concussion, must have been a pretty seriously hit.

I dont think MICHALECOLE was saying it was race related. I think he was asking how Jack knows that it was bullying and not just kids playing...

I cant say I ever got hit that hard but oddly that was the one sport i was actually decent at catching the ball. I played football myself but not in a position that typically had the chance to catch the ball. Not in my expierence anyways

We didnt use those inflated red rubber balls though ours where this dense foam with that hardish soccer ball like outside. They had some weight to them.

I could too. But we didnt play regular dodge ball. We played something called pin dodge ball. On both sides of thr court whete a single bowling pin. You won be either eliminating everyone or knocking down the pin. This forced at least one person to guard the pin and they had to be decent at catching as dodging would just let the ball hit the pin.

We held a tournament once a year so I guess it was a invention to shorten some of the games up

Its fun. I dont think it should be removed. Maybe not doing it with super young kids though. Middle school and up i dont see a big issue as long as the coaches pay attention to any blatant cases of bullying.

At most just let kids who dont wanna play opt to do another activity.

That's what it started at mine. Then they brought in a ping pong table. When you say laps though you mean running? At ours it was walking. 1 and a half period though so roughly a hour of walking once you account for dressing out and or warm up excercises.

We didnt play dodge ball I highschool which is where that took place though. Everyday you had a choice of basket ball touch football and the walking or ping pong I mentioned.

Gym coach left often though so that touch football often became tackle. I broke a guys ankle once.

So let me get this straight: A ten year old threw a dodgeball so hard it concussed a kid? What proof does anyone have other than being injured that he was being targeted?

If anything, this is the schools fault if anything why are they using rubber dodgeballs? Those have been phased out years ago for the spongy ones.

This whole case is dumb.

You must be a wonderful human being to take delight in watching another kid get hit in the head in dodgeball. You see, I was one of those kids that nobody liked because my parents weren't part of the local 'clique'; so kids threw the dodge ball at my head all the time deliberately (and I'm white). Apparently it's only when a black kid does something inadvertently that he'll get sued; a white kid gets a pass, which is why discrimination against minorities will never end.

https://www.hometownlife.com/story/news/local/canton/2019/07/30/canton-township-boy-charged-assault-after-april-recess/1871973001/

It reported that a 10-year-old Canton Township boy assaulted a 9-year-old male classmate while playing a game called Tips in late April.

Tips apparently uses a rubber ball similar to the kind used for dodgeball. The ball is not thrown. Instead, players form a circle and a ball is tossed in the air. Players must catch the ball while jumping off the ground.

Prosecutors alleged the 10-year-old took the ball and intentionally threw it with force once the game was over. The 9-year-old suffered a concussion and abrasions, causing the childs mother to file a police complaint.

The more speed you put on the ball, the harder it is for your opponent to dodge said ball. Throwing hard is part of the game. Most people would aim center mass for an easier target, or aim for the legs to avoid being caught out.

If he aimed for the kid's head, yeah that's a dick move. Didn't read the article but if the kid that got in trouble hucked the ball, the kid that got hurt could have turned his head or body in a way where he put himself in harm's way. Happens all the time.

If youre throwing a dodgeball at a kids head hard enough to cause a concussion you arent playing the game anymore, youre just trying to hurt the other kid

This. You have to usually throw hard so it goes faster and is harder to catch... If you don't throw hard, you'll either miss because they dodged, or be out because they caught it. I wasn't good at throwing. That's why I just did my best dodging...

That's being said, if they other article is true and they were playing tips instead of dodgeball, that's different. Though, either way, I think they said it was after the game. But there could be ore to this...

Ive eaten a few dodgeballs in my day.

We were better off when we used volley balls. But then the school got money and purchased official dodgeballs balls. They were softer than volley balls, and werent full of air all the way, so we thought the worst days were behind us.

Were we wrong. Those things had a SLAP to them.

Eventually, I learned the rhythm and was fine... but some of the other guys...

Wayne County prosecutor Kym Worthy on Wednesday said theres a better way to go forward than to take the child to juvenile court. She encouraged the families to find a solution. The charge was filed Tuesday.

Bravo.
