Empoleon looks Steel to me oddly enough, but yeah most of those others dont really. A lot of steel types do have the steel look though either by being silver/gray or actually being made of metal regardless of whatever color it is.

So I've half kept up with the sword/switch news but I need a few things answered. I've watched the direct and stuff but,

side note - I played and was obsessed with pokemon from Red to Emerald. Those 3 gameboy generations owned thousands of hours of my life. I played Diamond but at the time I moved onto other genres and stopped playing everything pokemon. I haven't played sun/moon or anything. I guess i did beat firered.

So question if anyone had an idea:

1. We saw the legendaries as well as we knew the starters already and they showed off a few dudes like my man wooloo. Do we have any idea how vast (or small) the new addition number is thought to be pokemon wise? 10? 150?

2. Have the games ever kept the berry system introduced in R/S/E?

3. I'm reading about new types theyve introduced which is cool, but does that add any complexity or are the primary basics if a simple team still able to counter relatively anything?

1. Nah, no way of knowing. Recent trends would suggest less than 100, though.

2. Berries still exist, and they continually add new ones with new effects, though the methods for obtaining and growing them has changed from game to game. X/Y gave you a dedicated farm, S/M had your boxed Pokemon tending to them, B/W required a browser mini-game I think.

3. It's still the same concepts at it's core. Things are weak to things, things are strong against things, the usual. They actually made it easier in S/M by reminding you if a move is effective or not when fighting something you've already fought.

4. For whatever reason Game Freak doesn't like the idea of giving old Pokemon real evolutions in later games, so X/Y and OR/AS added temporary forms to various Pokemon that boosted stats and sometimes changed types. They haven't added any more new ones since. You can ignore them unless you plan to get into competitive battling.

Not gonna lie Im also sad were probably never getting another B/W scenario where all the old Pokemon are locked behind post game and stuff. New Gen is all about the new Pokemon to me and as much as I love some of the older ones I have no interest in having them on my teams again soon or even running into them when Im trying to catch brand new Pokemon.

That would require them to have another really big generation, which seems unlikely at this point.

They could still make it work even with like 75-80 new Pokemon, but they wont do it. Probably more people out there who are happier to use Arcanine for the billionth time than people like me who wouldnt care if Gen 1-6 was completely absent from the game. All the appeal of a new Pokemon Gen is the brand new Pokemon to me. I mean I guess I care a little if something older gets a new evolution, but they havent really been doing that lately in the way Id want aka not Forms/Megas

Eh, that would be the smallest regional dex by a longshot. Plus random trainers would probably end up using the same 5 things if the dex was that small.

Yeah, even when the game has several hundred you still run into trainers using a ton of the same Pokemon over and over. Its just sad to see a brand new Gen and heres our new Champ appearing to have Charizard as his ace instead of a brand new Pokemon. I love Charizard, but dammit the Galar leaders, elites and Champ should all be using exclusively brand new Pokemon and then on the post game rematches you can add older stuff to their teams imo. Like I dont really want to see them using older Pokemon especially when they will probably be the ones they Dynamax on top of it

Maybe the Charizard is his ride Pokemon

I don't think Leon's going to be the final boss anyway. The only time before when the champion was revealed before the fight was Alder, and he wasn't the final boss. We'll probably get someone else as the final boss and their ace will be the region's pseudo legendary.

Now that I've seen it, my thoughts...

- Corviknight. Want. This thing looks ridiculously cool.

- Wooloo is adorable. Turtle whose name I forget is pretty cool. I like the new designs so far, the grass one is a bit whatever but it's still decent.

- Shield wolf is kind of cool but sword wolf is where it's at

- So we've moved from Mega Evolution to Even More Mega Evolution? Er, Dynamax? Oookay.

- Wild Area seems pretty neat.

Overall it looks pretty good so far.

Dynamax - Stupid. Like mind numblingly world shatteringly stupid. One of the most obnoxiously bad game mechanics they have EVER introduced. Z-moves sucked, these are dozens of times worse.

Everything else looks fucking sick tho, can't wait. Buying both!

Despite what it got right I still want to doubt parts of it, like how Meowth apparently gets a Gigantimax form AND a regional "evolution"? After already getting an Alolan form? Come on Game Freak!

Saw this live, but never wrote anything. Time to share some thoughts:

- Wild Area is a really cool idea and graet way to make a lot of Pokemon available. I'm guessing some of the things there is post-game and that some of the fully evolved Pokemon are super rare or maybe not even available at first, but if done right it could be great. My only issue is that it might mean we don't get as much post-game material. The first standard Pokemon games on a console always never have much postgame content, but Switch did have Let's Go, so they are a bit familiar with the engine.

- None of the newly revealed Pokemon looks fantastic to me in the "I must use that!" sense, partly because I don't care much for the typings, but none bad at all either. Hope Corviknight wont make Skarmory obsolete. Poor ol friend already suffered greatly in usefulness from Celesteela's introduction last gen. Electric corgi has potential if real. Initial reaction was that Shield Wolf is far cooler because it is a shield while the other one has a sword, but I think Sword Wolf could be growing on me.

- Don't care much for Dynamax at this point, but I did get a good laugh from the Player throwing that huge ball and it crashing into the ground after being thrown at Gyarados. That looked funny.

- Reading Rotom Phone is a thing almost killed by entire anticipation. I really hope is doesn't interact with you in the slightest, because if it's like in USUM, it'll be a constant distraction to anything enjoyable.

The more I think about Wooloo, the more I love it. The only other Normal line I've liked is the Lillipup line. I doubt Wooloo and its evos will be good enough to go to the Elite Four, but damn it, I'll at least use it at the beginning!

Wooloo's ability is pretty good and defensive, so it might be usable! (It's Fluffy). I mean I am using it anyways. X3
