Mods vote on disputes rather than being handled by individuals:
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/6-gamefaqs-announcements/77748152

Rather than having three different dispute tiers with a constant back and forth written argument, there is simply a single dispute tier now. You will be able to write a message to the moderation staff for your dispute. As this is no longer a back and forth conversation, you're highly encouraged to use your dispute text to explain why your post isn't a violation, not to ask us questions (or attack us, or point out that someone else did it too, or etc).

Once you've disputed, a 24 hour window will begin. During this time, all members of the moderation staff will be able to see your dispute and everyone will be able to vote on whether or not the moderation should be upheld or overturned. This means that it's no longer up to a single moderator per tier anymore but rather that you have the chance to have multiple moderators review your case and weigh in, which makes it much more fair and more likely to reach an overturn than before.

Finally, it made no sense that you had to dispute to the original mod before

This is the best change too
Also, we'll be waiving any non-abuse remaining wait time that anyone had prior to this new system launching, meaning that everyone who hasn't abused the system can dispute right away

As I understand it disputes used to be forwarded to a random mod? Given the amount of meaningful discourse I've seen in disputes (my own and others) I think this will make it less likely to see overturns not more.

Like say you have 10 mods, just to name a number, and one out of the ten actually rationally reads disputes when they get them, then you have a 10% chance of having a chance of an overturn.

Now with the new system that one mod who cares to put effort in will always be outvoted, so you get no overturns instead of a small chance of one.

Well, that appears to be working under the assumption that mods don't give a damn and will just handle everything lazily, which is a much larger issue.

I think this is a fine idea but I'm worried that long term number of votes will be lower than people think

I have no idea the number of disputes per day but obviously not every mod will view every dispute, and especially in a few months when the honeymoon period is over I see people not feeling inclined to go vote every day

I hope it averages to at least 3 though

First dispute was to the original. They would uphold 100% of the time because why the hell wouldn't they, in which case you appeal to a random lead mod, who actually has a decent chance of overturning in my experience. But if you have appealed to a lead mod then you were locked out of it for a month or whatever.

Hopefully they have some system on the mod side to incentivize voting.

But still, I have found that when you get your moderation in front of another mod, it's really quite likely that they will overturn it if it genuinely isn't a violation. It was just hard to do that before.

The 2/3rd requirement is pretty steep but I do think it will still lead to many more overturns. The fact is previously, there were literally 0 overturns on the first appeal, so it's not hard to beat that.

I can't even imagine what incentive could even be given - a pat on the back, a gold star?

It's kinda the problem with any volunteer position. I guess itd look good for an eventual promotion to lead mod

The mind of a gamefaqs mod is very strange so maybe a gold star is enough

There should be a win loss rating - points for overturning moderations and points for having your own moderations not become overturned
