Just curious...

Well, I know it's not fair to even ask that question because I myself thinks classical music are garbage to the ears

Johnny Cash/some really old country is alright. New country just sounds like alternative pop rock with twangy accents to me.

Because modern country music is mostly pop country and it's all the same shit.

That being said Chris Stapleton is okay and probably the only current country star I can listen to. I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to him though.

I think most peoples' impression of country music is based on the heavily commercialized stuff that all really does sound the same and has shallow lyrics.

But there's a lot of really great country out there, both classic and contemporary, that people just don't take the time to explore.

See in this topic alone you have people who say it's just all really redundant and annoying crap but I disagree :\ I'm not saying the artists I like are anything outstanding but I also think they're better than the stuff you're likely to hear on a "country" radio station.

I like the kind of harder-rock-ish country, if that's even a thing. Brantley Gilbert for example has a few songs in that vein that I like.

It's one of the genres of music that feels like it has the least variation; modern country, anyway. Stuff like Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, and David Allen Coe always had distinct feels to their music.

You could play a country song from 2018 and it'd be anyone's fucking guess as to who even sings it

Modern country is pretty much identity politics in music form.

Its over produced, feels fake and its overly repetitive: pickup truck this, good old boy that, drinking this, whisky that, rural this, love with good old girl that, cowboy hat and twang.

For the record, hip hop/rap is pretty much the other side of the coin, but at least it doesnt sound like shit and its more diverse, you got the likes of Eminem, the other white dude who did a diss track on Eminem, you got Macklemore, etc. You can go to a hip hop concert and see a bunch of basic white girls having fun. Go to a country concert and see how many black dudes you see there and how many of those make it out unharmed

This is again a super gross generalization of *pop* country music and maybe concerts in certain parts of the country :\

You can find a decent non-mainstream country musician and go to normal concerts without a bunch of Confederate flag denim jacket wearing mullet heads.

Yeah I live near DC and I've been to many different concerts, including a Calle 13 concert where my wife and I were in the minority as white people, and I've always seen diverse audiences and never saw anyone getting jumped or threatened.

People go to a concert to have fun not perpetrate hate crimes against other people :\ I don't know what kind of concerts you go to lol

There is the thing, Calle 13, 50 cent, etc, you can be the sole white guy and you will be fine.

Imagine going to a Ted Nugent or kid rock concert while black

I like the Drive-By Truckers' albums, but most of the country I'm fond of is back in the 60s-70s, around the time all the good formative country-rock bands were starting and outlaw country was peaking. If you like story songs, you'd probably like this one (if you haven't heard it before):

In my experience people who universally hate a genre are making something of a no true scotsman argument, because you could feasibly show them an item from that genre they could like, but at that point they would just think "but this isn't the kind of country I mean".

Usually it's a remark on a fairly superficial view of a genre based on stereotypes and common cliches that are abundant on the top level. And that's understandable because if that's all you're exposed to you're not going to go digging through shit to go deeper and find the gold.

Stereotypical reasons to hate country would be: all sounds the same (notice this is the same thing people say about any genre they dislike), don't like the strong country accents, pickup trucks, bourbon, baby girls, dogs, don't like the corny outfits, don't like the electric slide guitar, don't relate to the subject matter, etc.

Like you TC, I bet with some time I could probably show you something classical you wouldn't hate. Maybe you need a gateway artist.
