I hear all this dick sucking praise about the story and how realistic it is and the random events but I also hear the gameplay part is bad if not worse than RDR1. It's sluggish and there are things that make the game unfun for the sake of realism

I've never seen a game so highly regarded yet with so many possibly serious flaws. Makes me unsure if it's good

Single player is insanely slow, maybe the slowest game ever made, but the story and characters are good. RDO is a trash fire.

different strokes for different folks. some people like a slower paced immersive crawl. some people like fast past instant gratification. impossible for there to be a consensus on it tbh.

This almost. I don't about slowest game ever made, but it is slow. Online is still in beta but I fully expect it to still end up like GTAV:O, nothing but horse shit and cosmetics.

If you liked RDR1 it's worth it for the story for sure.

It's a good but overrated. Lots of horse riding, auto-aim mechanics, shit level design from the PS1 era, a story that loses its focus and lots of mechanics that never comes to its full potential. A lot o the simulation elements are going to infuriate you by the time you're done with the game.

8.5/10. It started off very strong, but the more you play it and compare to its peers, it's a very overrated game. It has incredibly amount of detail and effort put into it with lots of great cinematic moments, voicework, visuals and polish, but the core gameplay is one that doesn't impress or revolutionize anything.

Its worth playing for sure.

It's certainly got some weird things about it. So much attention to detail for certain things. But then you notice that your guns teleport to your back when you get off the horse. The bounty mechanics are never truly explained and are never fun to work around.

The mission design is painfully linear. Moving around the world can sometimes feel dull. The game has made me sleepy before. The shooting looks satisfying but isn't really satisfying to play. You're just locking onto waves of generic goons which doesn't match what the rest of the game goes for. The controls are awkward, sluggish and often cumbersome.

But yet it's a unique and memorable experience. The world looks absolutely incredible and is overall fun to explore. Probably the most detailed open world in games so far. GTA IV is a good comparison.

nah. it's as slow as fight club was to a movie. so while it's not all action, almost every scene is fucking pivotal in the grand scheme.

The plot's a slow burner, but the campaign itself is pretty good. Unfortunately, a lot of the missions themselves are samey-feeling, wasting some of the potential from the great characters, dialogue, etc. As for RDO, it's incredibly mediocre right now because there's about 8 missions to do (none that impressive) and there haven't been any major content updates to it since the beta released.

what's wrong with the level design, and how does the story lose focus?

I think I used the lock breaker once. The stealth in the game was so middling, though, I'm almost glad there weren't any other forced times to use it.

This only happened when your mission ends up in a large firefight. It was annoying mostly because it spoils your mission the second you hop off your horse. But it doesnt happen otherwise.

The shooting looks satisfying but isn't really satisfying to play.

Disagree on that one. Mowing people down is a blast, especially with the gore and realistic physics. Shoot someone somewhere and their body responds accordingly. Youre not supposed to feel a challenge, its more about living a film like cowboy fantasy. Everytime I shoot up a saloon it feels like the ending to a Tarantino movie.

The controls are awkward, sluggish and often cumbersome.

Sometimes, but the only real issue I have is when trying to loot when theres a pile of twenty bodies and 15 hats all right next to one another

That's been my thought on this from day 1.
A good story is great if the gameplay is there but a good story doesn't mean squat if everything else is boring as hell.
And that's my million dollar question. Is it fun?
Are there a thousand things to do, explore and play with sorta like Skyrim? Or is it all "Oooooh Aaaahhh. The visuals are so amazing!" but whatever because everything else is clunky and shit like GTA4?
Because 99.9% of any talk I hear and things I read about it talk about nothing but story and visuals. And what little I see of anything else is usually negative citing issues with clunky controls, slow ass moving everything and boredom.
