Board 8 > Fix This Game Day 6: Final Fantasy XIII

Yesterday we waggled our way through Skyward Sword and said

-Bye to Fi
-Fixed or removed motion controls
-Swapped out repetitive gameplay.

Today we have another FF game on our hands. The infamous Final Fantasy XIII, some love it, some hate it but what needs to be fixed?

Make Lightning less hot because I can't focus

Don't use fucking Roman numerals

Some minigames in that one carnival town would be nice but XIII was so good that there isn't much to fix

The only real issue I have with the game is the story. Like... it just feels like something out of an afternoon cartoon or something.

The battle system. I want to determine who I control.

What games did I miss between Super Mario Sunshine and FF13 today?

Less linearity; draw less in narrative design from Final Fantasy X.

Shorten random battle times in the final dungeon. I just got so frustrated by them taking forever, I just couldn't finish the dungeon and simply YouTubed the final boss and ending.

Lightning is fine, other than being a female Cloud with a taste of Squall's "...whatever."

* Remove Vanille. (I'll tolerate Hope.)
* Stop head-hopping in the narrative.
* Give the player meaningful choices to make in the first 20 hours of the game.
* Give the player the ability to influence their characters' development, ever.
* Delinearize the story, or write the characters so they're actual people. (Sazh is okay.)
* Remove all the stupid flashbacks. We don't care.
* Explain the world in a way that makes sense, with meaningful terms, within the actual gameplay.
* Create an antagonist who makes sense.
* Add side characters we can actually interact with.
* Don't make us wait until chapter 11 to experience the actual game.
* Don't hide the best items behind a wall of synthesizing.
* Let the player have better control over the flow of battle beyond just changing paradigms.
* Don't put your characters -- especially your strong female hardened soldier -- in a fucking Louis Vuitton ad.

Have someone push Hope to his death early in the game and everyone cheers.

Where do I even begin.

--Give the player any degree of interactivity with the world and/or any reason to care about it.

--Like seriously man give me a fucking town or an NPC or something jesus.

--Change the villain's plan so that it makes sense, and make it so that "the good guys cooperate completely but then they believe in themselves really hard" is not an effective countermeasure to their plan. (If I've missed something here feel free to point it out)

--Change the equipment system.

--Re-design late game encounters so that it's not just 3-5 minutes of button mashing while waiting either for their health bar to dwindle down or their stagger gauge to fill up.

And actually that's probably it. Surprised I didn't have more to complain about.

i first thought this said = not =/= and was wondering why people wanted to go back to the title screen after a battle death or something

- some way to bypass parts of ch. 1-10
- less forced character shifts
- equipment costs less
- instant kill lower level enemies without going to battle screen (like P5)
- change Vanille English voice
- change Snow's entire character
- continuously hear screams of agony while in Oerba
- give Lightning a lightning bolt scar on the forehead
- Lightning can fly
- Lightning can go Super Saiyan
- when controlling Lightning, combat system transforms into real time with fighting game engine
- make Snow gay
- include gay sex scene with Snow
