I mean I don't really act like Obama did anything literally any president wouldn't have done there, but the president literally gives the go ahead for and thus can stop a mission like that. So yeah, part of his legacy by default is still part of his legacy.

Revisiting the SCOTUS Travel Ban decision discussion for a second...

My understanding is that the 3 red sox mentioned had voted for a full lift of the injunction while they wait to hear the case as opposed to the partial lift that the other 6 went for. The case wasn't decided on the merits so in that sense no one "won," but as a practical matter it's no surprise Trump would call the result one because y'know, he is who he is.

I think I heard the possibility floated though that since the travel ban was 90 days or whatever, that by the time the court would hear the full case in October, it'd be over so I wouldn't be shocked if at that point the court went "oh lol, case dismissed because there's no longer any point" as a way to dodge deciding the merits, but I'm not entirely sure if that's an option for them in light of their decision today.

tl;dr: Case wasn't decided on the merits so whether it's constitutional or not has not been answered. Partial restoration of it feels to me like the court basically "fixing" it from a legal standpoint and I wonder if their plan is to dodge deciding the issue entirely.

Guys.

If MWC is saying "Obama isn't responsible for Osama dying because, blah blah blah"

then just point out by that logic anytime he claims Trump has done something, citing that technically so and so is doing that because Trump didn't do it with his own hands.

Or just ignore him. But some would call that boring.

The issue is that either MWC is a troll and poking at his idiocy isn't really fun or that he lacks any sense of logical consistency and doesn't have the basic grasp on, well, anything, that'd he need to recognize your technique as being semi-legitimate according to his own stated claims and assumptions, and thus he'd respond angrily at what appears to him to be your nonsensical claim with such a depressing lack of irony you'd feel sad rather than amused. Like how Smallville responds to criticism, but less self-aware.

Since we seem destined to keep having this discussion...

My view and handling of this situation since the beginning is to judge it based on the posts rather than the user.

If I think the discussion/point/question raised is made in good (enough) faith/genuine/interesting, I have no problem answering and discussing regardless of where it came from. If it's not, I don't bother... but since most of the topic likes to get derailed on it I either check out of here entirely or sometimes just snark at the rest of you for falling into the same trap every time.

Very rarely I'll needle at a point I don't think is reasonable, but pretty much only if I think I might be able to drive the discussion somewhere interesting... which is... very rare... (and generally unsuccessful because no one else will follow me there >_>)

I said from the beginning that if it got to the SC, (and it wa inevitable) that it would work out. I also said that anything the President does should go directly to SC. The lower courts have no say on this....

The fact this thing went at 9-0 just reaffirms what I said about liberal judges though. They do not rule y law or precident, they are a purely political arm. The entire 9th circuit court needs to be done away with.

I don't care about CNN admitting to doing certain things for ratings, because every business does what they have to do to make money. That's whatever. The story here is them admitting there's no proof on the Russia story. Which I already knew, but having the left admit to it is another thing entirely. Expect this to completely blow up all over the internet once people wake up in the morning.

On a long enough time line, I will always be proven right. It's just a matter of patience.

Gonna be honest, it's taking a lot of restraint not to tag a ton of people in this topic and just laugh at them. But that isn't really good for anyone's mental health (especially mine) and I'd much rather people got along, plus the people in here aren't the problem. The media is. They're the ones lying to people. They're the ones pushing for violence so long as victims are on the other side, instead of broadly condemning it no matter who does it. There is no room for using riots to make a point, no matter who does it and what the reason is.

And it's not just liberal media doing this crap, by the way. When I started my break from Board 8, it wasn't just a break from here. It was resetting all my priorities, which included getting rid of all the toxic news. I'm embarrassed I listened to people like Alex Jones for as long as I did. Guys like him are every bit the problem CNN is. I've been so much happier since I've just cut all that stuff off.

I mean Trump literally admitted that Russia hacked and Obama knew, so just because some chucklefuck morons at CNN tried to push an unverified story (I'll bet actual money that someone set them up, knowing that all info on Russia gets pushed through for ratings, and that once it was disproven it'd make the entire thing look fraudulent)...you get my point.

But yeah, Trump admitted Russia meddled, so I dunno what else to say about that.

It's been talked about way too much. Just like Hillary's emails, it's a non-story: Something dumb happened but it's impossible to prove the person at the top was negligent or malicious.

The Russia story has become such partisan nonsense that you guys can't even keep your own narrative straight! Here is a brief summary of facts:

-Russia attempted to interfere in our election via hacking DNC servers and attempted hacking of voting machines
-The latter had no effect on the election results
-The executive and legislative branches acknowledge what transpired
-Russia and other nations routinely interfere in our elections, and we routinely interfere in theirs
-Dems and the media are saying that Trump and Trump surrogates colluded with Russia to help them with the interference
-So far, there has been ZERO evidence to prove this is the case other than "a few of Trump's supporters talked to Russians before the elections," which again is proof of nothing
-The special investigator is now looking into the final point and will likely come back with full Trump vindication, but Trump was an idiot and might have obstructed justice for no reason when he fired Comey

Actually, it would require a lot of finesse to structure that as an income tax to make it constitutional, since the constitution bans non-income based direct federal taxes that aren't apportioned among the states based on the census. And of course we want to target blue states with these taxes so there wouldn't be a point to apportion it among the states per the constitution.
