I had more fun with Odyssey than I'd had with a bunch of the other mainline games. Definitely more than AC3 at any rate.

Then I played all of those games wrong.

And to be honest, they weren't all that punishing if you just brute forced your way through most assassinations in the later games. Even the Ezio games tended to give you leeway if you were apt to keep getting caught. And Syndicate basically gave you different protagonists depending on whether or not you preferred playing more stealthy (Evie) or a bit more action-y (Jacob).

I haven't played any of of the post AC4 games except Odyssey so I wouldn't know how those were. Most of the time you would fail the mission if you got caught.
