red sox 777 01/04/22 4:33:39 PM #25: | Saw an interesting study at WSB regarding following Jim Cramer's picks. Apparently, over the last 5 years, daytrading Cramer's buy recommendations (buying at open the day after the show airs and selling at close the same day) outperformed the S&P 500 by an astonishing 1102%. Holding for longer periods underperformed the S&P 500 suggesting that the short-term advantage comes from Cramer's viewers piling into the recommended stocks and not because they are actually better stocks than the market average to hold. This is surprising because I would have expected the jump to have already happened by market open. But apparently a lot of people watch Cramer and buy at some point during the next day other than market open. --- September 1, 2003; November 4, 2007; September 2, 2013 Congratulations to DP Oblivion in the Guru Contest! ...
