Metaloid: Origin (Switch)

First game I beat for the new year.
Feels like a sequel to METAGAL. Right down to the character designs and made by the same developer.
I did not care for the story and it didn't help the dialogue looks like it was written by an 8 year old. I can forgive them a little cause English is probably not their first language.

You can use 3 characters to choose from at the start. Erika, Zeta and Neva. Each of them feel similar in gameplay style but have a few differences in some of their abilities. I started with Erika, Zeta and finally Neva.
Erika seemed like a good first choice, Zeta felt boring and I ended up liking Neva.
Erika > < Neva > Zeta
It's an ok-ish Mega Man X clone.

Super Star Path (Switch)

This was a neat shoot em' up with puzzle elements. You shoot down aliens strategically to open up your path. Shooting an alien of the same color will set off a chain reaction and leave behind crystals. You can use the crystals to power up your ship at the stage select screen and even buy different ships that also have special attributes/perks You have to be careful though on how you form a path cause if an alien of a different color is caught in the explosion of another alien that doesn't match, it becomes crystalized and it can't be destroyed. You can also find upgrades along the way. Once you reach the end of the path, you fight a boss battle old school style.

It was a little on the short side but the later levels can be quite challenging, especially the last level. I liked the game's pixel graphics and sound. Game felt very original.

Venture Kid (PC)

Replayed. This time on Steam.
Loved playing this last year on Switch. One of my fave Mega Man ripoffs and it deserves more love.
I wish Steam had the extra features the Switch version has (Adventure Mode which you can tackle the levels in any order, Boss Rush, Survival which is like Mega Man 9 and 10's Endless Mode with it's own exclusive levels.)

Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! (SNES)

Ancient replay but this time played via Switch with a friend in online co-op. It was a blind run for him just like with DKC2 last year.
I never liked the misconception that this was a "bad" game. It's a good game. Yes, it was hard to live up to DKC 1 and 2 (especially 2) but it's by no means a trash game. It did come out late in the SNES' life cycle during the time everyone moved on to the N64/Playstation/Saturn era...

Streets of Rage 4 (Switch)

Replayed with a friend. Completed it on a Normal Arcade run. He was Blaze and I switched up a little. Played with Cherry this time instead of Floyd/SOR4 Axel. One of the best damn beat em' ups from last year.

Whipseey and the Lost Atlas (Switch)

I got a Trip World/Mr. Gimmick vibe from this game just from the look alone, though it does not play like any of those games.

"In Whipseey and the Lost Atlas you play as Alex, a young boy whos curiosity has landed him in a world of trouble. After finding himself lost in a strange world and being transformed into a magical creature named Whipseey, he must to solve the mystery of the Lost Atlas to return to his original form and go back home."

Gameplay reminds me of a cutesy Castlevania. You can jump on enemies to flip them over/stun them and can whip. It's your main way of attacking and you can swing across gaps on the floating rings. You can also use your whip to hover a little. There's some rough level design in two of the worlds but nothing too bad. It's an alright game, just a little on the short side.
