When you think about how the game world's technology hadn't progressed far enough for sailors to go through standard Sky Rifts, Stone Reefs, and with even the most experienced of sailors getting either eaten alive, or barely escaping with their lives trying to tackle the Dark Rift, it all locks down that acceptance of a flat world in Arcadia.

Also, with tech that allows for travel beyond the familiar Mid Sky not available, where all of Disc 1 takes place [Exceptions being a few locations visited in the Yafutoma region, and the Temple in Rixis], and the early portion of Disc 2 reinforces that idea. Plus, the world builds on that by the location of certain discoveries, eluding to the ship wrecks that tell the player of the previous generations struggles with trying to conquer seemingly impossible barriers.

Although, it's now pretty funny when the Delphinus can fly right over the mountain range in Valua, ignore the Grand Fortress completely, and explore the world map variant of the Valuan Empire. Your ship can only land in Lower Valua City however.
