Topic	I want a ranged weapon to carry but throwing knives are illegal here.

You're probably best off with a small crossbow if you insist on something non melee, but how "portable" that is is debatable. I plan on training just like I did with my knife. YouTube has tutorial videos on nearly everything so I'm sure I'll be able to find something.
