Theres a compatibility issue with windows 7, a compatibility issue caused with some of the old graphics settings (the issue I had), and compatibility issues with some hardware. Fortunately, I can run the game on highest (with motion blur off cause ew) with no problems after all this hassle. My brain is broken though because I'm using my switch pro controller now but previously I've used 360 controller and PS4 controller. Switch pro has A and B, and then X and Y switched compared to that so my muscle memory is all wrong and I keep sheathing my weapon instead of attacking and drawing my weapon instead of using an item. I'll get used to it though. I've also got a headache from all the troubleshooting so I feel like I need to rest instead of play. Very annoying. --- I'm ninja (you can't see me) ...
