#132:

A few days ago I bought a ps2 Slim at a Goodwill for $15. I'm not sure if the connections are all that different from the normal unit, if I just couldn't remember how to actually connect it, or if it was defective, but I couldn't figure out how to get the damn thing to work >_< Tried it on my old CRTV or whatever (but I couldn't find the remote) then a more modern tv (whose "game" option seemed to just be looking for an HDMI connection), and then a cheaper unit. Tried to google some answers, but it wasn't much help. Finally wound up just returning it since the return policy is only like 48 hours and I stupidly didn't put much effort into trying to get it to work the night I bought it. Still, it seriously sucks because that would have been a great value, it was a more conveniently-sized device, it *should* have been more reliable, and it would have been a decent back-up if my current (not in use) ps2 ever broke down.

Not a fan of them being kids, though.

The full crew probably won't be kids and having some be kids lets them have at least some recurring cast.

I'm going to say the same thing I said for the all-female Ghostbusters - the problem isn't who they pick to star, the problem is the script.

You say that, but I'm not sure even a good script could have worked with that cast. More importantly, we may have had an inking that it was going to be a trainwreck from the casting, but we had confirmation with the trailer. By contrast, this has a reasonably good-looking trailer -- even if kids growing up not knowing about the ghost incidents feels a little improbable and the timeline seems shaky.

With Ramis dead, Ackroyd not writing, and the trend for modern writers to completely misunderstand the appeal of the 80s films they're callously exploiting (which results in them either going completely camp and stupid or overly serious, either way the tone being all wrong), the end result is almost always an abomination that should have been left to quietly die. And this basically looks like someone decided that Stranger Things is really popular, so they should just make a Stranger Things/Ghostbusters crossover sort of movie.

Yeah, but I think Ghostbusters 2 also shows that the original creative team might not have understood the appeal of the original film =p

It MIGHT just be trailer editing bullshittery, and the actual movie will have a totally different vibe, but it doesn't really help debunk the theory that they literally cast the kid from Stranger Things to be in it.

Which one is from Stranger Things?

And, prior to watching Knives Out, it'd been a while since I saw some real straight-up trailer editing bullshit. The trailer made it look like a campy comedy, including characterizations completely at odds with the film. Of course, afterward I learned Rian Johnson directed it so... I shouldn't be entirely surprised that it failed to deliver on expectations. Not that it was terrible for a movie I had been talked into seeing at the last minute.
