Our representational republic is a facade for oligarchy. We're given largely meaningless choices to quibble over while the heads of the party dictate the actual policy for their respective figureheads to follow. Simply put, those people are still there BECAUSE they're shady Washington insiders, not in spite of it. Trump and Sanders were a rebellion against that since neither was backed by their party. However, Trump only wanted to line his own pockets and build his fame, so his interests largely aligned with the GOP as a whole anyway (since they're wholly concerned with hoarding wealth and using fear mongering about nonsense to hide that fact and keep their base in line) and they fell in behind him despite people like Mitch, Paul Ryan, and Little Lindsey initially having meltdowns about how he'd "be disastrous for the country" due to what they perceived might be a lack of control over him. <cite>Sir_Specter posted [p:930184736] in Donald Tru...
