Plus, from the type of school it was you would think they would have training on how to handle/diffuse situations with these children. Special schools are 'supposed' to but you'd be surprised on how many school districts put teachers and other people who aren't trained to handle specials in special schools. In some cases, a 'special' school is 'special' in name only since having the proper training to handle 'special' kids takes money and time, both of which are in short supply especially in public schools. And yes, in most cases, public schools are forced to teach 'specials' since private and/or charter schools can be selective in who they take (I've talked to several people who've taught in public and charters on this subject). Then there are school districts where teachers that can't fit into regular schools get the 'special ed' teacher label thrown on them even without getting trained, the same as this security person as it were. ...
