I'm Gen X and I must confess to a little shadenfreude at Boomers here.

The whole of the 80s and first half of the 90s was one huge Boomer circle jerk over how awesome they were in the 60s. You'd think they solved racism, sexism, and ended the Vietnam war by just smoking a shit load of pot and having loads of sex. They were obsessed with letting you know that they were cooler than you when they were your age. You quickly got sick of it.

I don't really remember that but maybe I was too young or wrapped up in being a kid. The hippie movement were activist marching, rioting, protesting, etc., just like the youth of today. Sex and drugs were just a part of it as they wanted marijuana legal and sexual preferences seen as natural ( as we do now). We Gen Xers didn't have any great thing to protest such as war, which I am glad of. We more worried about being on milk cartons, a rash of teen suicides, saying No to drugs. I think we were called "Latch key kids" because we were left alone a lot.

We made fun of hippies when I was a kid. I guess they were way out of style. There was definitely a generational war going on between them in their parent's generation, more than what we see now between them and millenials. If you look back you see how they were treated as if the whole of Western society was going to shit because of those lazy hippies.

Just like boomers treat millenials today.

What I find weird is the crazy activist youth of today that the Boomers complain about would fit pretty easily in with the hippies.

Come to think of it great strides were made in race relations, sexism and how we viewed war. It isn't there yet but humanity has to grow up.

I guess the old has always complained about the young and vice versa. The children of the millenials will roll their eyes one day and say "Ok, Millienial".

When older people gripe about youth and saying they are the "Everyone gets a trophy" generation I ask who was buying the trophies?
