We've mentioned their increased militarization before, especially with those fortified islands, and that Taiwan will eventually be a problem that has to be resolved. Some people did pay attention to the trade dispute, but you still have a lot complaining about the resulting difficulties. Ultimately, it seems that most people focused on Russia instead because of Trump. Now, here we are with Hong Kong and it doesn't look good for the protesters.
