Currently in Advance Generation. As of last night I've watched up through the episode where Ash's Taillow evolved. I plan to watch quite a bit more tonight.

While I have only seen a handful of episodes beyond this point (and by that I mean like, less than 5), I do know who future traveling partners are and (for the most part) who catches what.

James has been an absolute star for the past dozen episodes or so. Not that he wasn't always but he has particularly been on fire lately.

That Baltoy episode seems like it was planned for a movie but they went "eh, nah." They haven't done a whole lot of that realm of sci-fi/supernatural in the main series as far as I've seen. Sort of reminded me of the Ninetales episode from Johto.

May was... uncharacteristically nasty in the most recent contest episode. Like I know she's immature but she's usually not THAT bad. Ash had an episode like that in the middle of Johto too where I was like "DAMN he was a dick this episode!" It also involved him losing a competition and getting shot back down to earth.

One of the last 10 episodes or so I really just went "Nope, fuck that one." But looking at the list of episode titles I honestly can't remember which one I felt that way about. It may have been "Whiscash and Ash," that one had a really unlikable Character of the Day.

EDIT: Okay, I remember which one it was. "A Double Dilemma." God that episode was not only pointless even among filler but stupid as hell and honestly kinda mean-spirited.
