INFRA (PC)

Wow. So this game's been around for 2 years now. I remember playing what was then known as Part 1 and kind of giving up in the middle because of how quickly batteries ran out. They've patched it since, and was surprised that it went up to 3 Parts total.

Certain technical things stop me from admitting this as my game of the year. But I will say it runs very very close a runner up. This game is beautiful. It uses the aging Steam engine to produce some absolutely realistic settings. There is simply no game like it. It's a walking sim yes, but there's no supernatural elements, no terrorists to kill. It's just you an engineer, against some rather intricate urban exploration. For the most part yes you are isolated, but I love how the game puts in the effort to ground you in reality in some places. Occasionally, you'll see people walking around. At one point you even see a bunch of them at a rally. And even though 90% of the game is isolation, the devs put the effort to fully animate these NPCs. Heck, even bothering to make them exist is a step forward from every walking sim who wants to cut corners by never showing anyone.

I've been at this for 2 weeks now I think and I didn't think it would be this long. It was starting to get senseless by the end too but I stuck through it because I wanted to see the end. There's just so much to see and hear in this game and that's not even including the secret lore if you manage to find most of the documents.

Can't wait for the DLC and apparently they have a spin-off in the works.

It's not so cliche anymore when it's happening to you.
