A 23-year-old Melbourne man was arrested after police said he took a woman up on her dare to shoot her during an argument near a laundry room.

Allen Harold Turner Jr. was charged with attempted murder and unlawful discharge of a firearm after Melbourne police investigated a shooting that took place at Shull Manor Apartments off of University Boulevard on March 31. Police were called to Holmes Regional Medical Center to talk with a gunshot victim suffering from a wound to the upper left thigh, reports show.

The woman told police she was sitting near the laundry room when she was approached by "Jit," the man's nickname, which is also slang for a young person. The person told her to "get out of here," prompting the woman to hurl a curse at the man, records show.

Police said the pair began arguing when the man pulled out a black handgun and put it in the woman’s face. The woman then said "‘shoot, (expletive), shoot,’" which led to the man to back away. He then took aim with his firearm and shot two rounds toward the woman, records show. The woman ran from the area to prevent what police said was an attempt on her life, records show.

Police found two bullet fragments at the site. The woman was able to identify the man she knew as "Jit" through a photo lineup.

Turner was booked into the Brevard County Jail Complex overnight and is being held without bond.
