I've always felt like hipsters were another thing entirely. Hipsters are more into music, television, and movies, latching onto more obscure, lesser known media, less out of an actual appreciation for them, but for the cred that comes with knowing about something that the mainstream doesn't. Hipsters and nerds are similar in that when one thing they like becomes mainstream, they complain about liking it before it got cool, which to be fair, can be a pretty valid annoyance.
