Cause very often in the U.S. you get a lot of respect and perks for doing so.

I remember watching a video about a guy whose dad was in the military all of his son's life. Once the son grew up, he would put on his dads uniform when out in public. When asked about it, he talked about how he liked the respect people gave him simply by wearing the uniform. He mentioned about how since he had been around the military all his life, he knew what to say and what not to get people to believe him, so he could fake it pretty well I guess.

He faked it well enough to the point that a car dealership allowed him to drive off the lot with a car, despite not having lojack on it. He actually stole the damn thing and went joyriding.
